Zeppelin Seat Feedback Wanted 03 UC

Long story but I just had a Russell Seat built form my RKC and sold the bike. The seat has about 10 miles on it.

Now I just bought a 03 Ultra Classic which should be here in a week or so. The bike has the stock seat on it. I know from past experiances that the stock seat will suck. I could use my new RKC Russell seat on the UC but I have too buy that filler piece and the set up might not look to good.

Due to the time of year to find a used ULtra seat to use the seat pan, send it to Russell and have it shipped back it could take close to a couple of months and if I have to send it back for any adjustments that could more time. Riding time is not all that long here in Chicago.

So in the meantime I trying to figure what seat I could use till the end of the season. Mustang or Corbin will not work for me. So what interest me is the HD Tall boy seat , but again I'm leery that the seat will be good for a couple of hundred or miles and break down . I'm 6'01 265lbs w/32" inseam. Perhaps I could get some feedback on that seat.

My other consederation would be the Road Zeppelin, I would like some feedback on that from anyone roughly my size. Also how long have you owned it and any problems that you had while owning it.

Also if you have owned a Russell seat how would it compare?

TIA,
John

I think there have been several posts on this subject, so you might try search if not done already.

I have an 03 Ultra, converted to a Trike. I'm about 10 lbs lighter, but 2 inches shorter. I have had the Road Zep for about a year, and I love it. Have ridden long, short and medium trips in just about any kind of weather and the seat it very comfortable. Its very pricy if you don't plan on keeping it, but some have shown up on Ebay and gotten pretty good prices. Good Luck.

Check the post "Touring seat choices" in the Seats and Saddles Forum.

Did a search and did not see any info from large people. Anyone else have any other info on the HD Tallboy or the Road Zeppelin?

I am just about exactly your size clear down to the inseam, I ride a 00' Ultra and I have a Zepplin seat and I love it....the only drawback is it does raise you up about 1 or 2 " when pumped up, this is not a problem when riding but if you are used to the "normal" seat height it can throw you off at first. I would say go for it. JMHO

Thanks for the info!
BTW was it necessary to go to a taller windshiled? I wear a helmet and I have found out at least on my RKC when I installed my Russell seat it raised me up enough to create horrible buffeting with the helmet on. With it off it was acceptable.

330 lbs and have a stock seat on my ultra. Love it! Don't see a need for any upgrade. I have ridden for 8 hours at a time and have no problems with it. Two years now with the same seat. Consider trying the stock seat and then buy a different one if you really find it ain't working out for you. I did add a drivers backrest since that helps a lot when going on long rides.

I'm in the 250-260 class and I find the stock seat sort feels like it is bottomed out and pushing me forward a bit. In the 330 class I would think it would be worse.

Not to you but the original poster, why is Mustang or Corbin not a consideration.

Tried Mustang Solo on my 03 RKC and it do not fit me. When I called Mustang to return the seat had a problem even though all I did was put the seat on the bike, remove it and package it back up in all the original packing they did not want to accept it. On top of that I was told that I could return it if it was not damaged in any way.

This was all done within about 20 minutes after it was delivered. When I went on to explain why it would not work on how the seating area was too small and gave them my dimensions 6'02" 265lbs they agreed that it most likly would not work out for me even if I did try breaking it in. I also asked about there double seat and was told if the solo will not work the double certainly world not. This happened about 1 1/2 years back. Do not know if any changes have been made but I' will not take a chance.

Corbin right off the bat there customer service SUCKS THE BIG ONE besides the seats I have tried over the years again were built for smaller people.

For what these seat companies charge for there seats they should stand behind them. You fork all that $$ for somthing that looks good only to find after you ride it a few miles that it will not work, it really sucks. You can not return it and the only alternative is Ebay.

Had my Zep for 5 years. 6'1", 250, 34 in-seam.
It usually takes the last day of the trip back from Sturgis to MD before I finally have had enough of sitting on the bike. No issues but it did take a few 1000 to break-in (seat or my butt...don't know which). I actually ride most of the time with no air in the main bladder and just a little in the 2 under my thighs. Make sure you buy from a 20% off dealer.

Zeppelin Move you Forward?

I saw a post elseware that the Zeppelin seat would actually move you forward? That I do not need.

I would like to hear from 6'+ 32"+ inseam 250>lbs + riders that have the Zeppelin.

Also would like a photo of the RZ on your Ultra C.

TIA
John

I have both a Zeppelin and a Russell. Made the Russell from my stock '05 Ultra. It is now listed on EBay if you are interested. I am 6' tall, weigh about 165. i cannot believe how much I love the Zeppelin.

You make an excellent point regarding seats. What may fit a 6 foot 165 pound guy may be bad for a 250-300 pound guy of the same height. At 250 plus a "little" I feel like I'm bottoming out on the Stock EG seat. Someone that is 100 pounds lighter might think it's perfect. Same for cars for that matter. My 50 pound Daughter thinks the back seat in the wife's Lexus SUV is too stiff or hard but I think it is perfect. You really have to sit on a seat before rushing out to buy one.

A Note From The Fat Dwarf

I've got a Zep with the H-D backrest on my '06 Ultra.

I'm 5'9" and 300+ with a 28-1/2 inch inseam.

I had the bike lowered front & back and run 25psi in the air shocks.

When the seat is completely deflated, I can just barely get both feet flat on the ground.

When I pump it up, I'm on tiptoe when stopped, or just put one foot down.

It is the most comfortable seat I've had (Mustang Wide Solo and Sundowner Deep Bucket on a Fat Boy). On long days, I adjust the air periodically and it moves me around enough that I don't get sore at all. 200 miles on the FB was enough - 300 miles on the Ultra and just getting started.

If I'm in town or anticipate coming into a stop and go area, I deflate it for better foot traction.

The seat did not move me forward, in fact, it seems like its about an inch further back from stock. Also, the wideness of the seat supports my broad ass.

I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
