Danny Gray seat attaches to bike WITH A SUCTION CUP?

OK. I'm an idiot. You heard it here, first. I just proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt, today.

I spent my hard earned money on a Danny Gray Fatstich tour solo seat. The seat just arrived today. I was surprised how a seat which managed to make a pretty big dent in my wallet and "simply the best" hype is supposed to attach to my softail. The front of the seat has a tang that fits about as loosely into the frame channel as most seats do. Here comes the good part: the rear of the seat sticks to the fender with a PLASTIC SUCTION CUP.

Somebody has got to be kidding. This must be some kind of mistake. I'll call the company tomorrow and I'm sure straighten this all out. But its got my mind working in funny ways... if this is the wrong seat for a softail, who's bike is it the right seat for? Who is going to bet their butt going down the road on a suction cup?

Well, just when I thought I couldn't see much humor in this situation, my vision is improved. Thanks!

Can't they just send you out some side brackets?

Apparently they had to do it back at the shop. Said it would only take a day or two. I should see the new and improved saddle sometime next week.

The seat arrived this morning. Tim, now I can answer your question. Either the seat pan didn't originally come with holes for the side brackets or the holes were upholstered over. If the latter were true; they should have sent the brackets and hardware. What you suggest would have saved both time and money. UPS is the only one who benefitted from the way the company chose to remedy the situation. On the bright side, problem fixed and the seat is great.

The Danny Gray Fatstich Tour solo seat on my 2005 Fatboy does not change seating position over the stock seat. I didn't really have a problem with long distance on the stock seat. Since the seating position hasn't changed, I don't really anticipate any problems with the new seat. Compared to stock, the DG pommel is narrower. Less strain to get a leg down at stoplights. The DG seat is easier to settle into - no searching for the right position.

I've got a few miles on my DG seat, and it's been great. I went with the Touring seat so that my wife can ride with me still, and she loves the passenger portion. I still get a little numb, but nowhere near how I felt with my Mustang seat. And my butt's recovery time is a quarter of what I need with the Mustang.

I also noticed how narrow the fron of the seat is. It took me a few days to get used to it because it felt different.

You sit "in" not "on" the DG seat. That firmness and security is just exactly what I wanted, but has a price. On long rides there is no place to squirm to, get the circulation going. I finally broke down and bought a seat cover from www.beadrider.com (no affiliation). My weight feels more evenly distributed and small shifts make a big difference. I have a solution I can ride all day.

Paul (streetrod), what did you decide to do?

I'm talking to DG (High End). They are drawing up a custom seat for my softail which is will be based on the tour solo - really only amounts to a custom cover. Might be a little spendy, so not sure what I'll do yet. We'll see what they come up with.
