04 Wide Glide Mustang Seat Review

OK, I know everyone wants to review their own new Mustang seats and I know from wanting one for awhile now that there are just as many interested in reading the reviews as want the actual seat.

So with that said, here is my review of my new Mustang two piece seat.

The bike: 2004 Harley Davidson Wide Glide
The seat: 16.5 Wide Vintage Solo for the driver w/drivers backrest and 12.5 Wide Vintage recessed seat for the passenger along with a Mustang Back Pad for the new taller sissy bar I bought from HD.

Out of the box: Beautiful, well packed to avoid damage and cuts. Little to no installation instructions (more on that later).

Side by side: With HD factory seat the quality and difference is unbelievable. The quality and craftsmanship of the Mustang seat is not even comparable to the factory HD seat. Night and day, black and white differences.

Install: A little tedious due to the lack of instructions. I mean how hard can it really be to put a seat on but my point here is that there are some bikes where little changes in placement of bolts and brackets make a difference. I just think with the name and quality of the product they could produce a little better quality instructions.

On the bike: Man oh man what a difference in appearance alone. It's like having a Cadillac with cloth seats vs one with leather. All the difference in appearance in the world.

OK, the big one.... the initial test ride.....I'll make no bones about it, the seat will take getting use to. It's hard to say it is fermer than the stock HD seat but it seems to feel it at first. The shape is what I noticed first off. The way my butt fit into the seat. The way the back of my thighs felt. It immediately seemed to not offer as much overall thigh/butt coverage and i have a small butt. However, I am not worried because as I rode it more and more and then to work today I can definitely start to feel the fit and the quality.

Without doubt or any hesitation the number one plus to the seat is the drivers backrest. How did I ever get along without it before? There are not even any words to explain the benefits and conformability.

So far a total thumbs up as is also verified by the wife on her new back seat, higher sissy bar and new back pad.

Be prepared for a break-in period.

Lookin goood. Your review is appreciated. This is what I've been thinking about doing on my bike some day. What bags are those? Did that seat move you up or back any and do you sit in the seat and up against the back rest? I'm 6 4 and don't need to get moved up closer in any way. Thanks again for the review.

I've had the Vintage wide solo Mustang on my 06 FXSTC (formerly FXSTS) without the drivers backrest and the matching passenger pad for a couple years now and I definitely believe it's the most comfortable seat I've ever ridden on...put one on my 01 FXDX after I bought it last year...same results - LOVE THEM BOTH! I do wish I'd ordered them with the rider backrest, but at the time didn't want the extra expense...big mistake on my part.

I can't imagine a more comfortable seat.

Here's what they look like on my bikes, with a Mustang fender bib on the Softail and nothing extra on the Dyna:

400 mile update to my review.......

Man, I can not find the words! What have I been waiting on all this time. The difference is undescribable. Honest. I did leave out a bit on my original post review and that is the sitting position. I have read elsewhere that some feel a Mustang seat sits you up and closer by 1 to 2 inches. I have not found this. really just the opposite, comparing where I looked over the windshield with the stock seat it appears to me that I sit maybe an inch lower and man that's just nothing but another plus.

You will never understand the backrest until you ride with one. I will never ever in a million years ever ride without one again.

After a 333.4 mile ride yesterday 2 up the entire time, I nor my wife can find nothing bad to say whatsoever. After 333 miles I swear it was like I rode around the block.
