Russell seats
Well my bad luck is starting. Seems no matter what I do or buy something sneaks in and puts some glitches in it.
So here is my story. I ordered a daylong seat for my 08 Ultra. I called and sent an e-mail asking if I could send in a seat pan instead of my 105th Duracel seat. They said it was best to send the actual seat.
I explained that if I sold my bike one day I would want to put the copper and black original seat back on the bike so I was thinking about ordering just a seat pan from Mustang as they were the only ones I could find. They sent me an e-mail saying that would be ok.
Now my build date was May 13th. Today is May 28th and I get a call from the builder who says I opened your box today to start building your seat and see that you only sent me a seat pan!! I told him that I contacted them like I mentioned above and they said it was fine.
He tells me that they don't build them on seat pans because they don't have any reference marks and don't really know just where to put things. Im like WHAT! you are seat builders and don't have specs to build a seat with out MY ORIGINAL??
He then says, did they tell you it would cost more?? Im like WHAT again. He said they use the foam from your seat in the new seat and since I didn't have the foam and other stuff they use it will cost between $50 and $100 more and that he has been building seats for 5 years and thinks he can make it from scratch and get it pretty close?? Then says he thinks it will be fun since he's going to try it all from scratch. Im like, im glad your going to have fun, web site says 2 week turn around and now were talking getting it done next week sometime and you THINK you can get it close.
Im so pissed right now as this crap always happens to me!! I even tried to find a used 08 seat on e-bay and other forums, the web etc with no luck which is why I bought the seat pan.
I just hope this guys gets it right as I placed my order back in Jan or Feb and my current seat kills my backside.
Just needed to post my vent here and wondered if anyone else has had this problem with them?
Once I get it hopefully next week I will post some pics and give a update on how it feels before breakin period

Sorry to hear about your experience.
While I have never sent them a seat.
I do know several guys that use them. They are held in high regard with the IBA riders.
Russell and Mayer are the two of the most used.
Usually they do want your old seat and pic's of you on the bike and your passenger if getting rider and pillion done along with your weight.
They will keep working untill you are happy with it, of course you pay the shipping.
A buddy of mine just got one for his Duracell ultra. He used his original and got the heated option 1300,00 wow!
He is very happy with it and stated he never wants to get off now! This comes from a guy that can ride whatever he wants. Suzuki 1000 V STROM ,BMW 1250 rt,Kaw 1400 connie, H-D heritage , H-D V-Rod, and the ultra. He has a Russell on all but the heritage and v-rod.
I think you will find that they will work with you to get it right.
At least I hope they do. You are the first I have heard to be disappointed...but I guess there is always a first LOL.
Hope the best for you
Keep us posted.

Well I sent in everything from pics, weights etc all off their order form and im hoping they don't have any problems. I guess it just surprises me that they would need my seat for reference points. Mustang, Corbin etc all have the same reference points as to where the seat should be and don't need my seat to get the position right.
I know they make custom seats, but I guess if it were my business when a new seat comes in that would be the first thing I do is get all the info I need off it so its on file so when someone sends in just a seat pan you know where to start, not take a good educated guess.
I trust them, its just that I wish something in my life would go smoothly and hopefully it will be my butt when I get that seat next week LOL

Got it today
Alright!! I finally got my new Russell Day Long Seat today. Thanks to those who helped me have some patience LOL It came this morning and the first thing I did was wire up the heated seats, then put on some HD leather treatment for water resistance.
First glance, very nice seat, put it on and sat on it. I noticed I was sitting about 1 inch higher maybe a tad more. Putting feet on ground from riding position is a little tougher as I only got a 28 inch inseam at 5 ft 9 inch tall. But its really not that bad.
The first test, took it out for a 100 mile ride. Seat is firm which I like and you can feel support across your who azzzz :-) Coming to lights or stop signs, you can feel the pressure on the backs of your legs if you don't slide forward a little bit, or you can do what I did and just use my left leg to support the bike. I do that riding solo and low wind.
But so far it feels great!!!!!. Russell said it takes around 1000 miles for a break in and the seat height will drop with that too and should be close to stock height when broken in.
He is a pic on my ultra classic

Hey Wildey,Thanx for posting a pic of your HD. I just bought a seat froma98 Ultra and will be shipping to Russell in time for my prod date. I have a 97 Ultra with only 21000 miles and not a scratch. I found it from a one owner who didn't ride anymore and only cranked it each week but just couldn't stand to sell it. Just couldn't pass it up. I ordered the same half moon pattern and it looks like my butt will finally quit hurting. I have a broken tail bone and authuritis in my hips along with herinated discs.Hows your seat doing?
