Saddlemen Seats

I am currently looking for a new seat for my 05 RK. I am 5-10 have a 32" inseam and weigh 185. Right now I am looking at the Sundowner or the Mustang. I haven't really seen any talk about saddlemen seats. Any comments?

I purchased a Saddlemen seat called Explore Special Seat to replace my stock on '04 Heritage Softail Classic. It was for sale for $386.96 when I got it from Cruiser Custimzing. I saved almost $50. As I wrote on the review section there, the seat is firmer than the stock seat, but it is so much more comfortable. The back rest section is very large and it distributes my weight over large area together with the rider's seat section. Even though the gel-containing seat is firm, it does form into the shape of your buttock in about 10 to 15 minutes. You do not get a hot spot. So niiiiiice! When I first got the seat, I heard some squeeky noice coming out of the seat, but it went away after a few rides. The passenger pillon is huge. It also contains a gel pad. My wife absolutely loves it. However, she did say that she slides forward a little more easily on it than the stock seat we had had because the seat is slightly sloped down toward the front of the bike. As you can see on the first picture, the seat has their split-cushion design. It helps the main seat and the back rest part nicely wrap around your buttock.

I have a Saddleman RoadSofa on my eglide. Best seat I have ever had. I went with the velour covering. No monkey butt, my longest time in the saddle for one day was 14 hrs. I could of kept going if my eyes weren't so tired

I've always used Mustangs on my bikes and have always been very happy with them. But I was in Laconia 2 years ago early in the week. The Saddlemen rep was there and let me put a Road Sofa on my glide and ride it for a whole day. It was an outstanding seat. I wasn't in the market then, but if I am looking for a two-up tour seat in the future, they will be my first choice.

I've had any number of seats on my bagger. I have stuck the the Lepara Maverick. I have had a HD Badlander(sucked for sure), HD Reach, HD Sundowner, Corbin, Saddleman Road Sofa, Air Ride Police Seat(best), and currently a Lepara Maverick(best). I think the air ride solo and the Maverick are the 2 best seats I have ever ridden. I have the Maverick on there now cause my wife likes it way better than a the piss pad I had on with the air ride.

The Maverick has a really nice back rest step for the driver position and a concave tapered passanger seat my wife really likes. It is very well made but expensive but worth it. Looks good too. keepem sharp

Well, it has been many miles since I installed the Saddlmen's Exlplore Special Seat. It still is very comfortable. There is no sign of wear at all.
My friends and I rode to Crater Lake National Park a couple months ago. It was a 400 mile trip in one day. I am still amazed because I had absolutely no pain after the 400 miles of continuous riding. The Stock seat I had had gave me pains after riding only for an hour. I highly recommend Saddlmen's gel pad fillied seat to anybody!

I have the Road Sofa, and have ridden it around 6000 miles. I like it but, it reduced my leg room, and sometimes makes my upper left leg go little numb. Somedays it feels great others it doesn't. I also raised me up higher and closer to tank then I wanted. I like it, but it could be a little better. I may try a Mustang sometime. I rode the stock seat over 20,000 before the Road Sofa, so I will give it sometime.

I too have the Explore Special seat on my 02 Fatboy. I regularly put 350+ in a day and have no issues with getting sore or hot spots. My girlfriend loves the passenger pillon. Both the front/passenger have gel pads.

I got mine off e-bay, used but looked new for $200.00. I highly recommend Saddlmens.

Hi, I am looking at possibly buying one of these Saddlemen Classic Explorer seats w/backrest. I tried the 1st edition of the signature series form Harley and booo, what a bad seat. It would put my butt to sleep and 45 minutes into the ride.

Everyone on this thread has had pretty good luck with it, though I have read other forums where some folks have had trouble with quality control from Saddlemen.

I am about 5' 10" and 160 lbs., and find that I need to be a bit closer to the bars and a bit higher and from what I can tell, this seat may just do that!

Tekkamaki: Nice pics with the seat on your bike. Do you have any more pictures with the backrest on the seat and maybe include the whole bike? I would love to see how it all looks together.

Thanks!!

This seat actually put you a little closer to the handle bar when you sit on it. Probably about an inch or two. I don't think it lets you sit higher much, though. Even though I don't have any quality control issue, that doesn't mean some people didn't have any problem. As far as my seat is concerned, I am extremely happy with it and its quality is awesome. I bought mine from Cruiser Customizing(click here) .
The back rest you see on my bike is my sissy bar that is installed on my bike. My seat doesn't have a back rest for the front seat. Saddlemen does have the same model with a front seat back rest as you probably already know.

I know you're asking about 'Saddleman' .... but,

I put this Corbin on my bike a year ago, about this time. I've got almost 13K miles on it....

I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER

Good Luck in your search !!

When I said I highly recommend Saddlemen, I should have added, "for the price, it is an excellent seat." Much cheaper than Corbin...

I did call Saddlemen a couple days ago and they told me that they don't stock (as a regular item) the seat w/backrest for an '08 Heritage Classic. But they could custom make one by taking the "Explorer Special" seat with the studs on it and add the concho's and extra material to match the FLSTC. However, the charge would be the same as their normal price...649.00!! That's more than I was hoping to spend and is not that much different from the Mustang and Corbin price. They did say they could customize it for me and move me higher and maybe further forward at no additional cost.

The Explorer Special is the seat that mounts to the FLSTC though.

So, I don't know what I will do. I asked about the return policy and warranty, they said there would be a 15% restock fee if I found I didn't like the seat and it's warranted for 1 year.
