seat strap attachments

I have an ultra and use three different seats, stock, low SE, and a solo seat. The seat strap uses the same bolt as the saddlebag mount. Does anyone know a quick connnect or other method to attach the strap. Right now I don't use the strap at all, but I'm worried the rear seat bolt will eventually fail due to constant back and forth rocking from not using a strap.

You could probably install a Dzus fastener in place of the bolt and threaded hole. Dzus fasteners are 1/4 turn fasteners which use a cam-slotted stud turned on to a shaped spring to fasten it (same basic setup as the quick-disconnects for the saddle bags). They are a standard fastener for aircraft cowlings and other panels. You should be able to locate some at an aircraft supply outlet (www.aircraftspruce.com is one source), or you may want to visit an FBO (fixed base operator) on a general aviation airport (not your airline hub) and talk to somebody in the service and/or parts department, they can probably hook you up with the right pieces, and may even install them for you (some parts of the installation require specialized tools).

Just take the seat strap off and leave it off if the passenger is not using it. I've never ever heard of any problems with removing it. The last 2 bikes I've had went over 200,000 miles with no seat strap and didn't hurt a thing. I don't know anyone in my area who has ever left them on since HD added them.

I cut notches in the metal parts of the strap so I just have to loosen the bolts and slip the strap in place without removing the bolts.

Great solution. I don't have one anymore but I always thought it made accessing the battery very difficult. Good thinking on that change. We have some sharp people here.

dzus

dzus are also available at most speed shops to hold down your body panels on your dragster.
