New England trip

We wil be leaving Bowling Green Kentucky on July 7th heading into WV and then up to Niagra Falls. From there we plan on riding through Lake Placid and then up to Montepelier. From there across to the coast in Maine to the Statue of Liberty and winding up in DC on the 15th.

Any advice.... must sees.... must ride roads.... must eat places?

niagara falls

Food and lodging VERY EXPENSIVE. EG : they give you a 75.00 food voucher. that will cover breakfast LMAO just go see the Falls then get to Canadian side and also be sure whatever $$ you spend in Canada keep a recipt as you get the tax back see your other post for Canada. Lodging 20 minutes from Niagara falls way cheaper as is gas food and all. Hell the Hotel charges 20.00 a day to park your ride in addition to the overpriced rooms. Only good thing in the falls is the falls ....

When in Maine..... don't miss Bently's bar and grill, Rt1 in Arundel, Maine. You can't miss it... hundred bikes out front that time of year.

In New Hampshire ride the Kangamangus Highway and go to the top of Mt. Washington.
In Maine go to Acadia and Bar harbor.
The North End section of Boston is very nice and historic. You can walk the Freedom trail. Lots of great places to eat.
If you go to Rhode Island, Newport is very nice.

Should we bother trying to go to NYC? My wife wants to see the Statue of Liberty, but my riding partner is leery of the traffic.

Yes you should go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Plan to go through NYC when the traffic will not be too bad like just before sunrise.
I went in 1999 and though it was well worth it. I remember looking across the water at the World Trade Center, amazed at how big those two buidings were.
Sounds like you're planning a great trip.

Depending on how much time you have there are a couple of routes you can take. You could get on I-95 and stay on that the whole way or if you have some time to kill, take the mass pike (I-90) into New York and take the Taconic state parkway south towards NYC.
There are a lot of great roads in western Ma.
Get a map and check it out.
How long a time frame to you have from Boston to Washington?

You can drive it in one day (but a long one) so if you've got three I'd take in whatever scenic rides or interesting stops you want.
You could use day one going across southern new hampshire rt.119 and vermont rt.9 or in Ma. rt 2 (gets good after the Fitchburg area) the Mohawk Trail.
You may still want to do the Statue of liberty on day two. If you do I would recommend you drive down as close to NYC as you can on day one.
Get there early to beat the rush.
You'll have all the time you need there and you can head out to washington with time to spare.
Get a travel guide of New England because there is a lot to see and I don't want to give you any bad advise. AAA has them among others.

I agree. Take 2 west (Mohawk Trail) in Western Mass and then you can take 7 South to CT and NY. It's a beautiful ride.

Rt 7 from anywhere north (Vermont, Mass, Conn) to Danbury, CT and then the Sawmill Parkway to the Henry Hudson (Rt 9) to Ground Zero. Sawmill is a nice ride, no trucks.

What abut the tolls? I heard that they can be very expensive.
