Good way to see a route before a trip is to go to Google Maps, enter the highway or nearest city of interest to you, and then drag the yellow man (by the zoom in and zoom out bar on left side of map) to the road and drop him there. You will see a street view of the road and can move the man along the route seeing what is up ahead. You can rotate the view 360 degrees. I often use this tool to scout out new places to ride. Have found some interesting rides over the years. When I'm actually on the road I will recognize places where I'll need to turn by what I saw on the map (landmarks etc.). I highly recommend this. Of course nothing beats reviews from people who have actually made the ride you are interested in. Have fun. Explore.
