I rode 52 from Bluefield Va to Louisa Ky we did not have any issues with the Coal trucks at all. If it rains the road can get a little slick from the coal dust making a mud like substance. The ride was enjoyable but nothing overly exciting. It does give you a great feel for the way of life in Coal Country and the effects over the years. We were told to steer clear of JoLo WV that is where the worship the Rattlesnakes. Hope this helps.

I would be picking up rte 52 from ohio and planned on riding it all the way to Princeton and the going to Pipesteam State Park I have a friend who lives by the park. Is Jolo the name of the town?

Jolo is down on 83, off your route. Just don't miss your turn at Laeger...lol
52 looks like a good route, enjoy.

I've never heard anything about it. Can't imagine it's that bad.

There is no such thing as a bad road in wv.
If you get a chance rt 60 across hawks nest is pretty interesting

That looks looks like a good ride,it will be on my list of rides come spring. We will hit "Hillbilly hotdog" in Lesage and then head south.

250 from Wheeling is a good ride through the country and it comes into 219 which will take you nearly to bluefield where you could pick up 52.That would be one hell of a W.V. circle tour!

Good way to see a route before a trip is to go to Google Maps, enter the highway or nearest city of interest to you, and then drag the yellow man (by the zoom in and zoom out bar on left side of map) to the road and drop him there. You will see a street view of the road and can move the man along the route seeing what is up ahead. You can rotate the view 360 degrees. I often use this tool to scout out new places to ride. Have found some interesting rides over the years. When I'm actually on the road I will recognize places where I'll need to turn by what I saw on the map (landmarks etc.). I highly recommend this. Of course nothing beats reviews from people who have actually made the ride you are interested in. Have fun. Explore.
