4 day scenic ride

Just came back from a 4 night, 5 day jaunt on the bike with my wife. We spent over 90% of the time on back and secondary roads. Day one was a quick trip from Calgary to Waterton. Day two we left Waterton drove the "road to the sun" from St Marys to West Glacier and ended in Kalispell. Day three we rode from Kalispell to Creston via Libby and Bonners Ferry. The last day was Creston back to Calgary. With the side trips we took from each town we rode a little over 1530 kilometers, and spent about 20 hours in the saddle. One week of vacation left, time to pull out the map.

Here are the pics.

See the grizzly?

Spot the deer.

She can yell at me later.

Thumbs up

Great pics! I know you guys had a blast. That's the best kind of trip, no itinerary! Go, eat, stay where ever!

That is some of the most beautiful scenery I have seen in a long time. I am going to dig out google maps and try to figure out just exactly how you traveled. This would be a trip I would love to make with my wife! Thanks again for sharing!

I'll save you the work.

Day one: Calgary to Fort Mcleod to Waterton township. While in Waterton drive out to Red Rock Canyon.

Day two: Waterton across the border (Chief Mountain Crossing) to St. Mary. From St Mary take the Road to the Sun over Logan's Pass to West Glacier. From West Glacier go to Whitefish and then hit Kalispell.

Day three: Kalispell to Libby, Bonners Ferry and then north to Creston. While in Creston take highway 3A north to the ferry. It's about 70 km (45 miles) of pure twisties each way or you can take the ferry across and come down the other side.

Day four: Creston to Cranbrook, Radium Hot Springs, Banff and then to Canmore for the night.

Day Five: Canmore to highway 40 through Kananaskis, Longview, Black Diamond, Okotoks and back to Calgary.

If in doubt which road we took while looking at a map choose the one least likely travelled and that's the one we took.

If you look up the Selkirk Loop you will see a great ride that you can do that is close to home. We are going to do that loop next year.

Steve

Nice trip and pics. I've enjoyed the Glacier Park roads and the "Libby" highway to Bonner's Ferry a few times. It's one of my favorites.
