a deadly crash

I was watching the news a few minutes ago, while i was reading up on a few threads on cams. Then i heard motorcycle crash on the news. I stop everything put my drink down and listened. A lady was on her bike at a stop light on a highway. Speed limit is 55 mph there. A lady in a car doing her nails did not see her and at 55 mph ran into her from behind. Killed her!! Nail polish all over the window the reporter said. I guess this happened a couple of days ago. The reason it made the new today is, i think, is she(the car driver) was only charged with a failure to stop ticket!!!! Meaning she is at home--no jail--no court.... This happened in Ohio--did not catch exactly where it happened here. I did not catch her name. Her son was on there talking to the reporter asking why nothing was done to the nail polish girl. Hopefully this being on the news will open some eyes at the court house to charge her with some thing more. Crazy!!

any thoughts out there?

The Lake County state's attorney's office said this morning it is looking into filing criminal charges against a woman who allegedly was painting her fingernails as she drove and fatally struck a stopped motorcyclist.

"We are looking into charges in the case," said Assistant State's Atty. Patricia Fix, "but we are waiting for results of blood and urine tests and waiting for the results of an accident reconstruction, as well as any other technical evidence we can derive from the scene."

Authorities say Anita Zaffke, of the 1500 block of Eddy Lane in Lake Zurich, stopped at the intersection of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, as the traffic light turned from green to yellow.

The driver of a Chevrolet Impala behind Zaffke, Lora Hunt, 48, of Morris, told police "she was painting her nails as she drove and did not see [the motorcycle] until contact was already made," according to a Lake County Sheriff's Department incident report.

Zaffke, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown a distance from her Honda motorcycle, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller, who added that she died from chest and abdominal injuries about an hour later at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

"It appears to be a tragic accident and it appears [Zaffke] did nothing wrong," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Morrison said Sunday. "She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and she could not have done anything to avoid it."

Zaffke's husband and son declined comment on the crash this morning.

Hunt was ticketed with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She could not be reached for comment this morning.

Manslaughter minimum in my opinion.

Before the more understanding types check in let me post my opinion on the murdering bitch that was driving while focusing on something else.
Gosh, I sure hope this dosen't upset her too badly. Why, this could drive up her insurance rates and we all know the price of quality polish these days.

Wow. What a sad story. I hope it ends with jail time for the killer.

Another sad story. I feel for the family.

Awful lot of rear end bike murders this year...And for some, riding season has barely begun.

EVERYONE needs to be on the lookout....

Remember, half of them don't see you, the other half are aiming at you.

This is a somewhat common bike fatality. I Always keep close look out in my rear view when at a red light. If a cage wanted to commit murder of a biker and walk this is how they would do it. Motorcycles do not have a right of way because of the " I DID NOT SEE THEM" defense clause. Maybe oneday when we turn green and cages our no longer allowed to drive except for electric scooters and the like this issue might be addressd.

Sad story for sure, it pays to watch the mirrors although this poor lady may have had nowhere to go.

My first ride in town in 30 years, I was stopped and signalling a left turn when the car in the mirror came on way too fast. I took off about the time the girl locked the brakes, and she slid her accord right thru the spot where I had sat. Then she pulled around me still chatting on her cell!!

Yeah, I watch my mirrors for that - in my cage and on my bike. Paid off more than once.
That's the biggest reason that I hate people riding my azz.

This woman shall be "nailed" for doing her nails. She was shook up enough to admit it to the cops. However, it was stated on my local news that she has lawyered-up now. Hired an attorney referred to as "a very prominent attorney in Illinois".
Must be a rich-bitch. No sympathy from me.

Prominent or not, she admitted to something very very bad.

Victim's family needs to get moving on the civil action, before she hides her assets.

claydbal will become famous soon enough
and no one considers the killing she would have done if she wouldnt have hit the biker. she was on her way to run a red light and blast through an intersection at 55 mph!!! skip the part about the motorcyclist for a moment------this woman ticketed for failure to slow??? BSBBSBSBSBS. how bout operating a weapon of mass destruction?

i hope the bikers family sues her so hard that they get to pull her nails out 1 by 1. and leave her so broke she has to walk .

BUT OFFICER< I DIDNT SEE THE POOR LADY WHO HAD NO NAILS-----

I'm sure her prominent attorney will try to minimize the jail time (as he increases his income).

This "distracted driving" issue has been getting a lot of medea attention in the Chicago area lately. Now this lady will make her self famous for making this horrible mistake. This will be a big thing around here for a while. I bet some new laws will come of it.

I feel horrible for the victim and family. They were interviewing her son on the news last night. He said they were in the middle of grieving when he heard about the nail polish. Their grief turned to anger instantly. No surprise.
Snooty snob rich lady gonna get a reality check.
