An autumn ride in Colorado

Ahh cant believe this was just last week already, the honey-do list was caught up, the weather was beautiful around noon on a rare weekday off. What better to do than ride up the Poudre canyon just outside of Fort Collins to snap some pics of the beautiful fall colors. I threw some extra clothes in my saddlebags, charged up my crappy old camera and hit the road. The goal, take lots of pics of my bike and the scenery, and make it to the top of Cameron pass before returning.

The camera comes out, at the first curve just starting up the canyon, here the leaves are mostly still green. Its sunny, calm and the temp is around 70, elevation about 5000 ft above sea level.

A few miles into the ride, I stop for another photo op, already there is more color to the leaves, I wish I had a better camera to show the true range of color instead of just all blending to yellow!

The terrain and view change rapidly, from rolling hills, to tree lined alleyways, sheer rock walls and river vistas

The curves are calling, and the traffic is low, I find it harder and harder to stop for pics, but I have ridden through here so many times and never stop to get the shots, so I force myself to.

A Bmw rider tosses me a wave as I dismount, I fumble out my camera and manage to capture him before he disappears around his next curve.

And more colors!

At this point I added my vest under my jacket, We are about 40 miles up the canyon and close to 8600 feet, its just a bit cool, and I know it going to get cooler fast now as the wind is picking up

and of course fall in colorado wouldnt be complete without the Aspens!

And one of the nicest things about fall, Less bugs! My accuracy is good though I got this one dead center with the headlight

Nearing the summit of Cameron pass, the snow covered peaks are getting close!

Todays destination, the summit of Cameron pass, 10,276 feet, snow capped peaks, and an unforgettable ride!

More

But wait there's more! I havent made it home yet! Back down the road I go, Its definitely nippy here at the summit. I still need a few more shots, and my first stop on the way down is Joe wright resevoir. But I cant find a good spot for any pics with the water in the background as the resevoir is quite low this time of year. The best I can do is pull up next to the closed access road

Hmm, or is it. Its steeper than it looks in the picture, and should I really take my fat old hawg down there where I dont know how solid it is??

Yea, of course I should, who needs a dual purpose bike adventure bike anyway when you have an old FXR?

Look at the head on that one!

Just a few more now on the way down,
The view over the bars,

Couple without the bike

The last one, over too soon, but I'll be back!

Nice to see a post about riding a motorcycle! I hope I can make it back to Colorado again; it's been 30 years now, so come on retirement! Beautiful Country.

Comments? My comment is "Justin, please. You're killing me over here."

Man. I've driven that very road on four wheels--think I already told you that. Simply fantastic.

Your bike looks great. I think the front fender was still off in the last photo I saw. I like it on. Those colors are fantastic--the more of them the better.

Did I tell you how painful it is to look at your pictures?

I know, I know. Jealousy is a terrible thing.

I love that run

jit73, I've made that run myself, and the pictures are great but you're right, seeing it thru the camera lens is one thing, but to view in person is awesome and awe inspiring. Truly Gods country. Shoot me an E next time you plan on going up the canyon, I'm in Loveland.
