Chippewa 27862 boot review
After comments and help from other forum members I ordered a pair of Chippewa 27862 boots from workingperson.com. Price of $149.95 with free shipping was the lowest I could find.
Shipping did take a couple of weeks. As mentioned by gunslinger73, the site does not seem to stock inventory but acts as an intermediary. You order from them, they order from the source and it's direct shipped.
The style, looks and workmanship of these boots is fantastic. They use velcro so there are no zipper issues and you can snug them up to fit your ankle. With a height of 12" they feel very good in that area.
I ordered the size I typically wear (11D) but think, because of the narrow toe box, a half size larger would not hurt. (more on the toe area later) If you think you'll wear thick socks, definately go a half bigger and a size wider.
Riding with these boots was nice. I rode in 50 degree weather and, with warm socks, they kept the feet comfortable for the hour or so I was in the wind. They fit under my shifter well as the toe area is not as high as many work & Harley boots.
The one issue I am having a problem with is the extra leather atop the toe box. I realize it's there for the shifter (the right side must be for balance) but it's stiff. Very stiff. I'm hoping this softens up and I have written for some manufacturers advice.
They are still like new so I'll add more later. Overall my recommendation is that they are a good buy.

Good choice. Mine have been good from day 1. Didn't feel the stiffness with the 2 layers of leather. Give them a squeeze a few times a day, I'll bet they loosen up.

I've had mine for a few months and they get more comfortable everytime I wear them . Best bike boots I've had in over 20 years of riding

Good choice...
Like I've indicated on a couple other post on the board about Chippewa boots...I've had mine now for about 3 years and put maybe 20,000+ miles on 'em and will wear nothing else, especially on long hauls.

Hum Chippewa boots?
OK Fill me in guys. I use to wear almost nothing but Chippewa boots for over twenty years. Then the local shoe store shut down. Last summer I went back to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to the factory and discovered they no longer make boots they are now a boot/shoe store. I never did see any boots with their name or logo. I'd sure like to get back in a pair of their boots. They always felt great on the feet.

I got the Chippewa tall tops ( 17" or 19" tops ) with the steel toe and love em. They're heavy and took a long time to break in. After about 20,000 they show NO wear at all and are comfy now. They're big and heavy and in the summer I'll take my 15 year old Tony Lama's but if your doing anything serious in any kind of weather I don't think you can beat em. Personaly I like having my legs covered up to just below the knee and in cold, snow, rain etc I have yet to have these boots let me down.

I have had mine for about three years and love them. They are a little heavy and therefore not great hiking boots, but I wouldn't ride in anything else. I'd buy another pair in a minute.

I can't help you with your question but did you at least tour the Leinenkugal's brewery while Chippewa Falls?
I grew up a few miles from there.
And for the sake of this thread, I've had Chippewa's 'Packer' style boots for about 50,000 miles. They get more comfortable every time I wear them. I wear them for every day stuff, except for work. Top notch boots.

I was a "Wesco boots" only guy until I tried a pair of Chippewa's this year. I havent given them the field test as they are part of my riding gear but I know they will handle the job fairly well. Chippewas have earned my biz and respect. I have a pair of 73051's. I just love them! Comfortable, tough, well made, etc... I can go on and on. The fact is, they are superb. I feel my opinion is pretty good being that I work Utility construction (catv, telephone, etc...) and climbing gear is part of my daily job/routine.

Took these to Daytona this year for a final break-in. Very comfortable and the extra toe leather seems to have softened a bit. The right socks are important though! Very good looking boot!

I bought mine last year and immediately took off on a 2 week, 2000 mile cruise of Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula in late September. Rode through some serious rain and cold weather and love them. Wouldn't wear anything else for cool to cold or wet weather.
The only fault is that they're not good hiking boots. Climbing up and down rocky trails through the woods to see waterfalls and such would have been more fun had I brought a pair of tennis shoes to slip into for the hikes.

One great boot
I'm on my 2nd pair. My first pair were a little tight and they fit my son-in-law so I gave them to him and bought the correct size for me.
They are a very comfortable boot. I have about 9,000 miles on my new pair. Great sole, no slipping about. Easy on/off. Keep a 'boot knife' in my left inside location.
I reccommend this boot. Got mine from 'Boot Barn". I think they have a web page.
