Sena or Cardo

Looking for a bluetooth mic/speaker setup. Not necessary to hook up with a million other riders. Just me primarily and if the mood strikes me to connect the wife I'd like the option. So, with that said, looking for opinions on the Sena SMH10 and Cardo Scala Rider Q1/Q3.

Sena 10S is the successor of the wildly popular SMH10 and I can recommend it through personal experience with both. Do you want to connect it to a Bagger audio? If yes and it is a bike with the Boom audio you need a BT splitter from Sena like the Sena SM10. Harley BT Audio does not connect with any non HD bluetooth..........

I would like to connect to the Boom! system, but it's not critical. My primary use would be phone calls. Would be nice to hear tunes from the radio, but again not critical.

I've been reading about interfacing with the Boom! system and I've seen a couple of options that claim to work. On involved a second SMH10 connected to the Boom! and the helmet mounted one connected to that SMH10 or some such a thing. Might be what you're talking about.

The other was a wired setup that connects inside the fairing that is sold on EBay I think it was. Supposedly this one allows full use of the factory Boom! hand controls.

The 20S is said to be compatible with the Harley radio, but you still need to plug into the bike intercom connector. I'm looking for a solution that's completely wireless.

A Sena SM10 is a dual channel Bluetooth splitter and goes along with the HD cable adapter. With that you have full BT connectivity to your bike. Dual channel BT allows different sources for rider and passenger, which is a bonus for some. It has an aux input for radar detectors or similar.
Proven to work in many different bikes with audio systems

Since my primary reason for doing this is phone, that's what I'm focused on and so far I've found nothing that specifically states the phone can be controlled through the bluetooth connection. That's what I want to find out.

You can control the phone through Boom when you pair your phone with the Boom audio. If you don't want that, you can pair your phone directly to the Sena 10s, but you lose caller ID etc.

at first i was excited about the Boom Audio...then the more i look into it, the more it sucks. I use a Cardo Scala Q3 on my helmet and ended up deleting the pairing of my phone to the bike. I has really hoped for a solution that would allow intercom between rider and passenger as well as music WIRELESSLY instead of the BS corded stuff HD wants to sell you, or the SENA part that you need to buy for each person's helmet. On the outside it seems sooooooo easy...HD could sell an upgrade and sell a ton. Somewhere else on the forum, another thread explains it in great detail.

In the meantime, i'll continue using my Cardo Scala unit, until someone comes out with a unit the does it all without added on modules and crap.

I called Sierra and was told these two items would let me connect via bluetooth with the only limitation being audio would be mono, so it doesn't work great for listening to tunes. I would also need a second SMH10 for my helmet. The way it works is the cable Sierra makes connects to the radio and then to the SMH10-M01, which is the SMH10 main unit. The helmet mounted SMH10 then connects through bluetooth to the cable connected main unit. Essentially the main unit is an extension of the intercom and just passes audio via bluetooth to/from the helmet.

After looking into this it's gonna cost nearly $500 and would still be a kluge solution. I think I'll just stick with the Sena and pair it with my phone and be done with it for now. I'm sure the MoCo will come up with a better solution on the order of $2k or some such sh!t and maybe someone will come up with a way to better that.

I found out the 10S won't work with the Qualifier DLX, which is the helmet I'm installing in. The 10S would work if I went with the traditional clamp, but I want to utilize what the helmet is built for. Since I've given up on pairing with the radio and using it just for phone I'm good with the 10.
