Well I got tired of riding cold, so I stopped by the dealer yesterday, and picked up a heated jacket liner for 30% off. Great investment! Today, I wore it under my leather jacket and I was actually hot, during an all day ride in low 50* temps. Having my core warm, helped keep my hands warmer too. I was about to park the bike, for the season, but I may go another month or more now.
30% off? I don't think I've ever seen anything at the dealer for 30% off. Guess that is a draw back of living someplace you can ride year round, no end of riding season sales.
I recently bought the Gerbing jacket liner with the heated gloves. Best darn $ I've spent so far.I've been riding in the low 30's and I'm warm as toast! $ well spent, JMHO.
Cold weather riding for me works like this.
The first few days that are damp and 40 or lower are rough. I over dress and end up doing the take it on and off thing .
After that the body seems to adjust next it is much lighter gear and ride even at 35 degrees. Last week an even ride in Winona MN at 35 was enjoyable. It was a great evening to ride along the river.
Now at 58 and a few miles of riding behind me at 30 the heat vest and gloves go on. I may still be able to handle it without them but why. They make the ride so much better. less bulky gear is needed.
heated gloves are thinner than warm non heated are cause much less strain in the hands.
Stuff works and if you ride well worth it.
Bought the H-D Gerbing pants and jacket liner -- I walked out of the shop with a vest and then realized that it's the LEGS that get cold. Decided to return the vest and spring for pants and jacket liner.
Jacket is on back order (Feb. 1). Used the pants Saturday in 40's and 35F weather. Rode about 250 miles in damp, w/ some light rain, snow mix. I'm used to the dress standard for riding being "not cold." With heated gear the new standard is "toasty warm."
Being cold on a ride affects coordination, reflexes, and judgement. Piling on the layers restricts mobility -- If you're wearing clothes that keep you from turning your head, you're asking for trouble.
Pants and jacket being about 20% discounted ran me $500 out the door. Now I'm looking at glove liners, boot liners and maybe the thermostat add on -- although I can't imagine being "too warm." in this stuff.
There are a lot of options but I started with Tourmaster Synergy vest. It comes with connectors and adjustable temp control (on some that is extra) and can interconnect with pants if you get those later. For me it is a major improvement and makes 30-45 minute trips at 35*F nice and comfortable. Keeping core warm makes all the difference. For longer trips I would recommend full jacket liner and pants.
I have a heated jackets from BlazewearUSA.com and I absolutely love it. Great price, good battery life, and the warmth saves you from needing to go warm up inside so you can stay on the slopes for hours! They have other great products too like heated socks, vests, scarves, and even insoles you can put in any shoes...
