I would like to hear your opinions on wearing of German novelty helmets. I wear one because it is light weight and I think I look good in it. But I have had some people complain to me that I am wearing a "Nazi" helmet and that by wearing it I am supporting Nazi ideology.

What do you guys think?

wear what you want, but I decided a long time ago that I wouldn't wear one.

Don, what r the laws concerning out-of-staters? i have never owned or worn a lid. when i go to clarksville i never get bothered once the cops see my ky plate. But i was told they will ticket out-of-staters without lids.

I'm supposed to pick a bike up south of nashville soon & would hate to get a ticket & hate to order a helmet for one time use if i dont need it (big head = local bike shops/ fleamarket don't sell my size)

I was less concerned with the legalities or the level of protection and more about whether it makes a statement or not. I didn't think it did but was curious what the consensus was.

Just make sure that you line the helmet with tin foil to keep out the government mind control beams.

When I see that style I am always pulled back to the guy on HEE-HAW back in the 60's. He was a good actor and can not remember his name.

His thing was acting a little slow on the uptake.

I think that was Artie Johnson on Laugh In.

Was Darth Vader trying to make a statement?:redrolf:

Just for historical fact the german style hemet was introduced at the end of WW1 and had nothing to do with NAZI's. The modern US helmet is a modified version of the same.

I think most bikers wear them to look cool or try to be a bad boy wannabe.

If Indian Larry wore one he'd might still be with us building those cool bikes.

Yes. It was Arte Johnson on Laugh-in...

Go get a Goldwing, wear your German helmet & escort some WWII Heroes on an Honor Flight. Ask THEM if you look cool riding Nip & wearing GERMAN military items... It's THEIR opinions that count, not ours...

Bones, I said I thought I looked good in it. I didn't say I thought other people thought I looked good in it. And no, I generally don't care enough about what other people think of me to make me alter my thoughts or actions. But I work as the number two person in a semi large place and one of my employees made the comment to me. I never thought of it "sending the wrong message". Generally people buy/wear things because they like how it looks, feels, or functions. But I recognize my position at work and am concerned that I might be sending an unintended message. Like it or not, when you get high enough political considerations are important.
