I would like to hear your opinions on wearing of German novelty helmets. I wear one because it is light weight and I think I look good in it. But I have had some people complain to me that I am wearing a "Nazi" helmet and that by wearing it I am supporting Nazi ideology.
We must have a picture of yourself in said helmet to determine (1) If the helmet looks acceptable and (2) if you do, in fact, look like someone who is into fisting.
Unless you are in a "helmet state" why wear one? If you are in a "helmet state" like Tennessee you risk being ticketed at twice the rate of not wearing a helmet at all so why not wear a DOT helmet. Wear what you want. It's your head...
Don, what r the laws concerning out-of-staters? i have never owned or worn a lid. when i go to clarksville i never get bothered once the cops see my ky plate. But i was told they will ticket out-of-staters without lids.
I'm supposed to pick a bike up south of nashville soon & would hate to get a ticket & hate to order a helmet for one time use if i dont need it (big head = local bike shops/ fleamarket don't sell my size)
I was less concerned with the legalities or the level of protection and more about whether it makes a statement or not. I didn't think it did but was curious what the consensus was.
Is it a Wehrmacht or SS helmet?
One school of thought was that, by that wearing a German style helmet, you were saying that the helmet laws were totalitarian.
Was Darth Vader trying to make a statement?:redrolf:
Just for historical fact the german style hemet was introduced at the end of WW1 and had nothing to do with NAZI's. The modern US helmet is a modified version of the same.
I think most bikers wear them to look cool or try to be a bad boy wannabe.
If Indian Larry wore one he'd might still be with us building those cool bikes.

Go get a Goldwing, wear your German helmet & escort some WWII Heroes on an Honor Flight. Ask THEM if you look cool riding Nip & wearing GERMAN military items... It's THEIR opinions that count, not ours...
In your 1st post you claim you "look good in it." You don't strike me as the kind of person who cares about what others might be thinking. Has the PC crowd gotten to you?
Bones, I said I thought I looked good in it. I didn't say I thought other people thought I looked good in it. And no, I generally don't care enough about what other people think of me to make me alter my thoughts or actions. But I work as the number two person in a semi large place and one of my employees made the comment to me. I never thought of it "sending the wrong message". Generally people buy/wear things because they like how it looks, feels, or functions. But I recognize my position at work and am concerned that I might be sending an unintended message. Like it or not, when you get high enough political considerations are important.
