Anyone else do it? On hot days, I do...but not usually on long rides. I don't care if I don't "look like a biker" cause I'm wearing shorts.
I wonder how many people who don't wear helmets are going to flame me for this by using the argument that they would never wear shorts cause they don't provide protection in a crash.
Yes, to the shorts never sandals not that good of an idea shoes or footing can lead to a lot more bumps. Tennies for me. We got eaten by the shoei, bell helmet lobbyist law way back so gotta wear a lid and no I would not if I did not have too. Just another reason California sucks... (sunscreen is good) Only in town I do not like to be bumping 70 with my short pants open and well it just makes me think of bugs and rocks that could fly up into my most important thing in my life. I could not imagine living without him, yes my prong, my inspiration, the decider my closer.
I won't wear shorts ever again. Did it once or twice until I burned the crap out of my leg about 10 years ago on an exhaust pipe and still have a scar to show for it. Shorts are not for me. Not that jeans provide that much more protection but between taking bugs, rocks and other road debris in the shins and putting a burn mark on more than one pair of jeans from the pipes on various bikes, I wont do it.
I don't wear shorts, but would before i would go without full finger gloves again. 4 sq in of road rash on you leg hurts much less than 1/4 sq in on your fingertips. No more fingerless gloves for me.
I just went through that and you are right on the money. I had road rash on my finger tips and the palms of my hands. I also had a cast on my broken wrist that covered it on my right hand. Hurt like hell.
Ahh, this sure is nostaligic. Will it get to 4 or 5 pages?
I guess I'll play, again. I wear jeans, not for fear of road rash, but cause of the hot metal.
If its to warm for you, you can take the care with the AC.
Just came back from a nice ride with a tank top, shorts, and sneakers. AHHhhhh what a nice enjoyable ride and no burns, road rash or bee stings. Life is good.
shorts when i'm at a rally or a local run...sometimes i'll make a run to sarasota or so up 75 (80 mph)...nice on a hot day...usually with deck shoes or a lightweight pair of hikers...although i rode a charity run with a guy who wore flip flops and it looked damned comfortable....
as far as gear goes i do wear a non dot beanie 100% of the time...2 reasons...1...i'm from ny and used to it...2...the first time i put it on after moving to florida and enjoying riding daily with it off i slammed into the side of a pickup truck (that ran a stop sign) at 55 mph and it saved my life (you can tell by looking at it)...for some reason it turned it into a mental must have for me...even though i had previously ridden in multiple states lid free that one incident just sealed it....
personally i could care what anyone wears on their ride...go naked if you want...live free or die...we all know the risks....we're big boys now....
In my Gated comunity to the mailbox guilty. I would never ever ride in the street with shorts on. Flip flops no way. If you pul into a place with a little gravel, with flip flops and wearing shorts, your going to wish you were on a mini bike. I know everbody in here has come close to losing there footing emagine if you had flip flops on when that Happened,
Not picking on you specifically so don't take it personally, but I've heard this argument before. It's ok to wear shorts at low speed like at a rally huh? IMO, the constant stop and go is when I'd be most likely to burn my leg not only on the pipes, but the hot primary case. My legs aren't near pipes while cruising.
I like to wear my chaps over shorts on the highway only because the excessive wind provides enough cooling, but it also speeds dehydration through skin by evaporating surface moisture.
Well I tell you one thing.... you go down just once and you will never go riding in shorts again ,my youngest son went down a few months ago had helmet on ,boots ,riding jacket and gloves but he had shorts on and his knees look like hamburger ...has some bad scaring and still tender ,he was doing maybe 25mph when he had to start braking for a cagger and hit some fresh mowed grass that was shot in the street by a mower.
