If he has bifocals they are hard to get in progressive sun glasses that wrap.
I got Serengeti and love them!
I didn't get mine here as my company pays for most of mine but i will say that the same glasses here are half of what I paid at my optromatist

Yup....Wally World....progressives with Polarized gray lenses, foam lined and they fit well....better than many expensive brands. If I were doing it again, I wouldn't get Polarized lenses....too color distorting in some cases.

I get my frames from WillyX or Bodyspec both can be found on the web. then I have my opt fill the RX. they run around 350.00 with transitons lens. make sure the doctor knows that they are for work and riding. be sure to look for the Z87 frame
BTW he can just send his rx in to the companys and they can make glasses VIA mail order.

Being a myopic rider, I have 2 pair of Rx riding glasses - one for day riding, one for night.
The day pair are "Maui Jim," sunglasses made at the factory, with the company's full treatment, i.e. polarization, anti-glare, etc. Not cheap, but my optometrist gave me his "frequent-flier" discount, so they "only" cost me around $300 (original price was closer to $400). They work fantastic; great glare protection, great wind protection!!!
My "night-riding set-up" used to consist of an over-sized set of safety glasses worn over my regular specs. Unfortunately, this "double-vision" layer of optics (combined with my my windshield, giving me a "triple-layer"). It took some searching and some cajoling of my optometrist, but I found another great set of specs for night riding! I bought a pair of "Cocoons WideLine" (I have a large head), had the lenses treated with "Transitions" (for still-in-the-sky sunny evenings) and with "Crysal" (to reduce headlight glare); again, great glare protection, great wind protection!!!

check out 7Eye by Panoptx
They have a website and you can locate a Dr office in your area... insurance will cover most of them. Mine were 337 without using insurance. I got the ones that get darker in sunlight and lighten up at night. They are hard lenses so you are protected better from rocks then the cheaper wally ones... if that matters to you.

Ditto on SportRx. I have used them since I started riding and they sell all brands of riding glasses. I even lost a pair and they gave me a 20% discount on the replacements.

If your friend is as blind as I am (thick lenses), he may not be able to find wrap around glasses that can handle his prescription.
I wound up getting some mountain climbing glasses.

The "Cocoons" I bought have relatively little curvature, so getting prescription lenses (even thick ones) made for them should not be a problem. The "wrap-around" feature is provided by the frame itself, not the lenses, but there's no huge blind spot because the frame has "windows" on the sides, as well. I don't know if they can grind lenses for those side windows, too, but if not, even if his vision is really terrible, he'll still be able to see movement and light from the sides.
