Symax 2 noise

Ok, so I finally ordered and received my HJC Symax 2 modular helmet. I have been wearing an old HJC half helmet that has fallen off my bike I don't know how many times...but I made a New Years resolution to myself and my new wife a few years back to always wear a helmet when I ride.

With my half helmet, I felt like I was doing the right thing safetywise, but riding back and forth to work (mid shift-high AZ desert=cold) my face is the only thing that hurts from the cold. Plus, I've noticed the ring in my ears at night after a long day in the saddle getting more and more prevolent over the years.

A few days ago I did my first ride with ear plugs and half helmet, 200ish miles. While it was noticeably quiter and comfortable, I couldn't hear the stereo like I'm used to (FLHTCI). And when I rolled through Tombstone Canyon in old Bisbee without earplugs, I was suprised as to how noisy my drivetrain & pipes (Rush slip-ons) were. Wow, who'd a thought.

Anyway, I throw on this new Symax 2 thinking noise would be cut considerably. WRONG. The sound of my exhaust is AMPLIFED through the helmet! I mean its like someone sticking a mic right behind my pipes and its playing through my stereo. I never would have thought the noise is more (perceived) than riding with half or NO helmet. I wanted to cut out the wind noise and add a little extra protection for the cranium, but sh*t, I wanna hear some tunes too.

Anyone else with similar experiences. I really don't want to add earplugs underneath the helmet. I would get bored or scared as hell just listening to the voices in my head. I'm about to just scrap everything for the ole dew rag and enjoy the ride with the tunes rolling.

My HD modular, which is a HJC helmet, is noisier than my Aria full face helmets. I notice a lot of wind noise whenever I wear the full face or modular helmets. I wear ear plugs almost all of the time when I ride now

I have a Symax II and it did fine until I put on my Rineharts. Now I use earplugs 'cause it's just too loud out on the highway. And I really notice it when I don't.

I have the Symax II as well. I have been wearing custom molded ear plugs for two years. They cut out the wind noise without blocking too much sound. I have a microphone and headphones in the helmet so I can hear my bike-to-bike radio. The old fashioned wax ear plugs cut out even more noise.
