Story: Have always wanted a wide glide since I graduated high school in 1995. My first bike was a used low rider(couldn't afford a new bike) I bought in 97 that was wrecked me and my grandfather repaired. I rode it for about 2 years and in 99 I traded my used low rider in on a used softail custom Rode the bike for only about a year until I became divorced and the court wasn't very good to me in the divorce and gave the house, my truck (that i used for work) to my ex wife. So I had to sell my bike to buy wife another vehicle so I keep my truck to work. Has been tight ever since, divorce destroyed my credit and my finances so have not been able to afford a bike. The instant I heard HD was discontinuing the FXDWG in 09 last summer I bit the bullet and drove to the stealer and bought the Anniversary model you are seeing now. I always wanted one and after I heard of the discontinuation I knew I was meant to have the 105th Edition that would be the last year for them (hence my username). I was after this bike for over 10 years.

And the story: Got the motor and front end from a drag bike a had and my son (9 years old) and I took a 5 month trip into building a chopper together. He built the rear fender by himself with only minimum guidance to learn to MIG weld! Rolled the old bike into the garage in January '08 and test rode the new incarnation in May of '08.

This has been a 5 year work in progress that's pretty much done.
Though I'll probably find something else to do sooner or later....they are never really
done are they?
The bike is an 04 softail standard. 5 speed.
The engine is a 117 with Dan Baisley pro street heads, Baisley hybrid injection.
Darkhorse crank.
The paint was designed and painted by J E Illusions. It's a one of a kind paint set.
J E Illusions also stretched the tank.
The cases, jugs and heads were powder coated gloss black by Sumax.
Heads and jugs were then sent to Diamond cut.
The wheels, rotors and pulley are Performance Machine Villain series.
The hand controls, master cylinder, switch controls hydraulic clutch and brakes are also PM.
The rear end is also a PM Phatail 240 kit.
Arlen Ness forward controls. Roland Sands Design air filter.
D&D slip on exhaust.
Most of the accessories were done during the first 3 years. The paint, engine work
and Phatail kit were done last winter.
Lucky I was working a lot of overtime while I was doing this.
I'm not rich, I'm a construction worker and it took a lot of OT to pull this off.

I went with Phat117. I like the phat tire, paint job, as well as the sleek image it's portraying.

bagger is overdone, FXDWG is just normal, sporty is nostalgic but not practical for more than a couple hour ride----so phat gets the vote for a nice flow, well thought out driver.

Phat would be my choice of what to ride but I gotta go with the labor of love. Xtra points for the suicide shift too!

I'm a little burned out on bikes that bolt on lots of shiny stuff.
Yeah they can look unique but, to me they have no character.
Thats why I threw in my vote for the rigid.
It's not flashy but, who says bikes have to be flashy.
It's got character and can tell you stories while your ridin it.

Just so you know...The bike (with me on it) has been from New York to Florida twice, New York to Georgia once, and Ohio to Georgia twice. I broke my back in '93. So rigids can definately do more than a couple hours if you're not skeered!

Dig the wheels on the king, and you gotta love the old school on the rigid, but my choice would be the softail standard. Phatt got my vote.
Nice rides all would be proud of any of them.

Who did the work?
I have a 2004 Softail Standard, so vote goes to Phat117, which is deserving no matter what I own but I am curious, did you do all the work on the bike, cause if you did, it makes it all that much more AWESOME

bagger is nice but compared to the others overdone. Second bike is nice but seems out of proportion. chopper is on the side of plane underdone. so my vote is for the last bike. Verry clean well proportioned look. If I could buy one of these bikes all being the same price I would go for this one! well done!

Of all of them, the sporty is the one I would most want to add to my garage.

Ya know, I was betting on some smart ass to comment that.
I built that custom for the show circuit and it did very well.
It was built in 2002 and still wins shows now.
There's big difference between a full on custom and a bike that is a bolt together glitter girl.
To me, full on customs have lots of character in them from their builders.
My vote will always go to the bike that show character in it's being.
PS. I am building a Bobber this summer; not too much chrome at all but, thats how bobbers were built in their day.
If you want to vote for bolt ons, go ahead.
A builder will vote for character and design always
like I said, the rigid has TO ME the best of what I look at in a bike contest.
No disrespect to the others, it's my vote and thats how it goes.
