On Mother's Day, my mom was at her home in AZ (I'm in IL); my daughter was visiting her mom (I have custody); and my new lady friend was with her four sisters and her son...missing their mother who passed away recently.
SO....what to do? How about a 200-mile ride through Southern Illinois, down IL127 to the southwest bottom of the state? YEAH!!!
It was a day that turned out to be far more of an experience than planned. All good! Bright white clouds filled the sky, with occasional blue peaking through...at least until the last 10 miles, anyway. No one on the road, and no one following, so I could take those roads that are unknown...rarely traveled. And through it all, I cranked the Ultra's sound system to Rich Mullins the whole way.
With no one behind me or in front of me to worry about, it was like riding next to Jesus on a bike. Now, I won't get into the bike He rides, but... His initials are JC....and that rhymes with HD!!!
And did you know He likes to ride fast?!!!
Actually, through the miles listening to Rich praise the Lord in his music, and seeing the beauty of spring and new life, I felt His presence ever so deeply. With no distractions of lots of traffic, cell phone, work phone or email, I was able to communicate with Him through my heart....not just my head.
What started out as a ride because I was lonely, turned out to be a truly heart-warming experience...drawing me ever closer to Jesus.
Ever been there? Ever had that experience?
