Wearing CMA colors

As a fairly new CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association) member, I emailed a guy, asking if it was appropriate for us to wear our CMA colors (vest with back patch) to HOG events, etc... or do they only want folks to wear their own club colors? I thought his reply was really informative, so I'm including it here in case others might find it useful:

Martha-

First of all, congratulations on earning your patch. And also on the
imminent arrival of your first HD, the Heritage is a beautiful machine. Now
to answer your question:

I ride EVERYWHERE wearing my CMA colors, even to work. You will find that
the CMA colors are not only accepted in almost all group rides, but are
respected and even encouraged. Our colors have been known to be mixed in
with 1% colors. Members of our CMA chapter (Circuit Riders of Northern KY)
have even been asked into some 1% "clubhouses" for a funural service, or
similar circumstance. Entering a clubhouse as a non-member of that club
could be, shall we say, detrimental to one's well being, if not explicitly
invited. I only mention it at all because I wanted to illistrate the
respect the secular clubs often have for CMA colors.

Another example is secular rallies. There is a large annual rally about 4
hours from our chapter, Little Sturgis. This is located in Sturgis, KY. Do
a google search and learn about that rally, but don't be surprised if you
find some photos with "adult content". This rally is sponsored by the Hells
Angels (yes, they are very real), and the CMA has been invited to not only
attend, but participate in the event. The CMA will provide any help they
can to the sponsors, such as collecting funds, help with clean-up, games,
etc. But, we won't participate or attend things like wet T-shirt contests,
etc. Anyway, we definitely wear the colors there.

Respect of the CMA colors is not automatic, as you are probably aware. We
earn and cultivate that respect. One reason I wear my colors everywhere
while riding is it keeps my temper in check, when, for instance, a cager
does something, uh, unsafe around me. I may be a believer, but I am also
human. Displays of "displeasure" are ugly. When I'm wearing the colors, I
am particularly mindful of that. As a bonus, I find that cagers seems to
respect me more. They don't seem to tailgate me as much, and if I
respectfully motion for them to back off, they almost always do. Don't know
if that is because they are afraid of a backpatch wearer (1%er) or if they
respect Christians. Frankly, I just want them off my tail, so I don't care
which. I can tell you this, many people comment on the patch, ask
questions, so be prepared to give a testimony, sometimes at "inconvenient"
times.

If a club does not respect the CMA colors, and does not want the CMA colors
worn for a ride, respect that. But never assume that is the case. Some
rides forbit ALL colors, including CMA, to prevent turf battles, or
ill-feelings between rival clubs. Sometimes, CMA colors are the only ones
allowed in those runs. You'll get a feel for it

By the way, I'm assuming you got my e-mail address from V-Twin Forums. This
question would have been entirely appropriate to post in the Christian
Associations Forum, others may want good information also, were afraid to
ask. You can also PM me in the forums. This would be a similar format to
the forums, but would go to only me.

However, I am also fine with direct e-mail, but sometimes things may be
automatically deleted if I don't readily know the senders e-mail address,
you know, spam protection.

I hope that I have been of some help. Please don't hesitate to e-mail/post
any further questions or comments.

patch

Like Bot, I also wear my CMA colors anytime I am on my bike. The CMA is a respected organization and I have yet to have a negative response to the patch. I have had many people come up to me and comment on CMA and ask questions about it. It has in the past, changed the way folks talk and act around me. No, this is not bragging as I have been accused of in the past, I am just sharing a positive experience. Silent witness?? You bet.

Congratulations on earning your patch and your new Heritage. Wear and ride both with pride.

Thanks, Greg.... I've felt like the Holy Spirit was always leading me to wear the patch, just had that uncertainty (from the pit I guess!). Thanks for the encouragement... I agree that it has brought some really neat responses... from a little girl coming up and saying "I like your patch", to meeting other CMA'ers that I'd never meet without it. I hope to be sharing the Lord many many times through this ministry. Thanks again! -Martha

Ok, is it me or am I the only one who got goosebumps. Congrats on earning the colors. I remember when I first earned mine. Wow! It has been almost a year now. How time does fly! Congrats on the new Harley. You have a very good question and Bot did a wonderful job answering it. I wear my colors whenever I ride. Like Bot I am human (yes, moderators are human) LOL, the colors help remind me that I wouldn't be where I am at if it weren't for divine intervention. Thanks for you post and post often.

Hey folks.....I to wear my colors anytime, anywhere I can. I have been involved with CMA for about 10 years now and have never had a negitive response to my colors. Now to change the subject, I am about to take over as president of our chapter in November. Our chapter has been struggling the past couple of years, so pray for me (us) as we head into the new year. (probably should have made this a new post, sorry)

Rewind- Good luck (figger of speach) with your new position. I'm sure you'll do a fine job, just stay in the Word, follow your (God's) heart.

What sort of struggles does you chapter experience, if I might be so bold as to ask?

Mostely just keeping attendance up. There are so many things out there that pull us away. I was not very active for a couple of years because my wife and I had our first baby (man, babies are labor intensive!) A couple of people (who were very active) left because they were not happy with the direction that CMA as a whole was going. Many of our members have jobs that require alot of time, you know how that goes. That's the kind of things I'm talking about.
