US to send F-16s to Egypt

The US is about to send 4 F-16s to Egypt next month...as in, to the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood. It's part of 20 plane deal to supplement the 200 we already gave them.

No seriously. Somebody thinks this is a good idea.

Oh, and did I mention they're all a nice gift from you the tax payer?

Quote:
The U.S. government ordered and paid for the fighter jets for Egypt's military as part of foreign aid for Egypt back in 2010, when Hosni Mubarak ruled. The fighter jets were supposed to be delivered in 2013, and delivery will go ahead as scheduled even though Hosni Mubarak has been removed from power and replaced by Mohamed Morsi, who led the Muslim Brotherhood before becoming Egypt's president.

Well now that Egypt is a "Democracy", and now that the Middle East is on fire, I think it's a great idea to arm the folks in the world who would just as soon slit our throats. Its FAIR and it's giving them OPPORTUNITY. I love redistribution in all it's forms. And, now that I know my money is going to such a good cause, maybe I won't cut back in my work to avoid being "rich" and all it's evils.

It's either send them to Egypt or somewhere else, or the bone yard. Those countries have a hard time keeping their jets in the air. Once they hard break they can't get parts so they sit grounded. If they do get the parts, they don't have te expertise or tech data to fix them.

That certainly seems like a good reason to BUILD NEW PLANES AND SEND TO THEM.

But the most important thing is, building them gave a few people here jobs right?

Did you even read the Reuters article?

An official at the U.S. mission said Washington's objectives have not changed.

"We seek a treaty that contributes to international security by fighting illicit arms trafficking and proliferation, protects the sovereign right of states to conduct legitimate arms trade, and meets the concerns that we have been articulating throughout," the official said.

"We will not accept any treaty that infringes on the constitutional rights of our citizens to bear arms
," he said.

U.S. officials have acknowledged privately that the treaty under discussion would have no effect on domestic gun sales and ownership because it would apply only to exports.

What happened Bubbie, did you get your pistol taking away for waving it around at the local watering hole?

I hope the "official" is speaking the truth. "Officials" never lie do they?

Perhaps some but not likely all. I used to work at what was then General Dynamics in Fort Worth, TX where the F-16's were made. In fact my work was involved the computer systems on board. I'm sure they're quite different than they were 20 plus years ago. But......

don't get too bent DJW. The foreign sales did not get all of the same technology that USAF planes got, at least not then. An F-16 can be configured in far many different permutations than your average automobile.

They're still going to fly basically the same, but the weapons systems can be vastly different. Even the Israeli's didn't get copies of the USAF planes. By the way it was a standing rule that when Israeli's were in plant, they were to NEVER be left alone. Take a guess why?
