The truth is you "think it's kinda funny" to bash any religion. And it's always the same - no research, no thought-out informative posts, no data or facts -- just childish name calling. And now we know.

I think you guys here have given me some good food for thought. I really wish I had more time to research things that I am truly interested in, which these days seems to coincide somewhat with the topics in this forum.
Thanks to all of you who put up with my "devil's advocate" technique of sparking further conversation. I think all people should be able to justify/qualify their own ideas and opinions, whatever they may be. Some of you guys do that very well and provide thoughtful and helpful information.
It looks like this thread has been permanently derailed by the "dumb kid" (ain't that how it always happens?), but I will be back to offend and aggravate and learn again on another one soon I'm sure.
Thanks again.

Here is the problem, The separation of church and state, does not mean that the government has to bend over backwards to appease a religion. It just means it will not interfere with your right to practice your religion and nothing more.
The big problem is that politicians don't have enough balls to stand up when someone cries about something that has been tradition for as long as we have been a Nation.

"wall of separation between church and state" is a phrase used by Thomas Jefferson
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

If people would know their history and know the circumstances that our leaders at the time thought it was necessary to add this amendment instead of using it for their own political advantage, most of this BS would stop today.

Just to clarify the above:
The FEDERAL legislature...
No legislation may be passed by same..

respecting an establishment of religion

that selects a national religion
or outlaws
Quote:

the free exercise thereof
|
the right of the people to practice their religion without government interference
It seems that America has somehow forgotten the second half of that clause.

So I read this post again and I'm not sure if you are supporting or arguing against what Nitram said.
Are you implying that Sharia be included in the "religion" that people should be allowed to practice without government interference?
We really shouldn't cherry-pick who our laws apply to and who they don't.

This would be the problem, what to do when religious "law" conflicts with civil/criminal law . . . .
I don't see this as a problem with Christianity since the primary tenents are love your God with all your heart and mind and love one another. Nor with Jewish "law" since it has to do with how to live, but the stoning deal might be a problem.
