Behind most if not all is special interest money , how do you think they can afford multimillion dollar campaigns ? Contributions , people , groups and company's don't donate that kind of capital just because they like the guy.
Big money / business has been buying there way into government clear back to Carnegie , Rockefeller , Ford and JP Morgan .... it's had an influence on us for a long time.

If You Ran Into Mitt While Pumping Gas?
|
I doubt that Mitt would get out of his car for security reasons. His driver would probably be filling up the tank. Does anyone know how long he gets secret service protection? Did it end the day after the election? Does he get it for awhile?
Trivia question: Who had secret service protection the longest?

Sounds more like "influence" to me.

He gets no secret service protection the day after the elections, he is now a private citizen, he doesn't have a driver, he like most top level business men at times uses driver services to attend certain functions, btw senators or representatives do not get SS protection or at least till the time I was involved in the program.
presidents get it for their entire natural life.

For reasons of personal security, I doubt if Romney would be driving himself or filling up with gas except for a photo op. There are a lot of crazy people out there who would accost him or even worse. So if I were an adviser to Romney, I would tell him to have a bodyguard and a driver for quite awhile.
And does anyone know the answer to my trivia question. Who has had secret service protection the longest?

Lady Bird has the distinction of being guarded by the Secret Service longer than anyone else.

We have a winner here. The spouse of the president gets secret service protection for life, too. She was protected for 44 years.

He doesn't need a photo op, elections are over, you would be surprise how many important wealthy people don't use body protection services, pump their own gas and shop for groceries, protection services attracts more attention than just going solo, Mitt is yesterdays news, he can go about his business as before.
