As far as Christie canceling public works programs, I guess it's silly of a state gov't official to not spend money the state doesn't have.

FDR had polio. The most obese president we ever had was Taft.
And yes Christie vetoed same sex marriages, but he's still doing a good job as gov.

This kind of thinking will be why the pubs can stack their losses on top of each other. A guy like Christie who showed he truly cares about his people, all of them no matter what party affiliation, would get my vote in heartbeat. This country needs cooperation, not ideology.

(Sssshhhh. Will you guys please stop talking common sense? Some of us are trying to build a socialist paradise here)
Listen up -- Wingnuts. Compressor and Thrasher are just trying to fool you. If you'd only selected Michelle Bachmann as your nominee, you'd have won the White House back, and they know it. Do not compromise. On the contrary, take some political viagra and harden those Right Wing views. It's your only hope. Christie is a traitor to the cause. He said something nice about Obama ...

I think Taft weighed in at 325lbs,

And he has made a jerk of himself in vetoing some public works projects that would have built a better rail connection between NYC and New Jersey. It was his reasoning here that galled me. You can Google all the details if you are interested.

Christie vetoed the public works project (Hudson Rail Tunnel) because NJ would have paid for most of it, while NY would have gotten most of the proceeds from it.
In the last several months, Christie has turned himself around a bit, no more fighting with reporters on the boardwalk, been less of a bully, and distanced himself from the Republican party. The 'pubs here even went so far as to place Romneys defeat on Christie.
His handling of the teachers union was poor (in my opinion), but his handling of Sandy got him my vote if he runs in 2016.
I spoke to several people that were wiped out in Sandy, (including some from Ocean County HOG, lost their bikes in the flood) and they all had nothing but praise for Christie and Obama in the aftermath of the hurricane.
PS: SNL pokes fun at him for his weight, and he jokes about it.

I would guess that Christie exceeds that, and may even be close to 400 lbs. The weight issue would not stop me from voting for a candidate I otherwise liked.

I've said it in other topics and I'll repeat it here. There is going to be a battle for control of the Republican party. In this past nominating season, there was no moderate Republican in the field. I believe next time the Republican voters will have a real choice between the ultra conservative candidates and the moderate candidates. It will be interesting to see who if anyone tries to straddle these two positions. And the battle will probably center around social issues and not fiscal or economic issues.

An interesting conversation here. It seems the Republicans are the minority here, and since I usually go that way, let me throw my hat in the ring.
I voted for Romney, mostly because I don't agree with Obama on almost everything. That said, Romney wasn't perfect either. My own views are quite conservative, but I realize I can't expect everyone to live to the standards I hold for myself. That being said, a more moderate Republican would be a welcome thing I think. The trick is, what issues are they more moderate on, and where do they just draw a line? That's the sticky point.

I think if you look back through the Religion and Politics forum posts you'll see that the opposite is true.
