Something most of can agree to.
How the Hostess company is being divided
You may have heard that Hostess Bakery plants shut down due to a workers'
strike. But you may not have heard how It was split up. The State Department
hired all the Twinkies, the Secret Service hired all the HoHos, the generals are
sleeping with the Cupcakes and the voters sent all the Ding Dongs to Congress.

Not too many elephants in Dixie Land.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I think I'll change it back. There are lots of feral hogs here, though. LoL

That is a crock, I was a manager (non-union) in a company that was unionized ( United states steel workers)
We worked with the union and had a good relationship.
Never had any major problems, and I hired and fired many times without issue.

Speaking of unions (I realize this is off-topic) what is/was the attendance policy of the companies where the union represented the workers? The factory where I worked had what I consider to be very liberal policy on attendance.

Where I work attendance is one of our strictest policies. If you are late for work you get 1 point. Call in sick, 2 points. Points are added up on a rolling 12 month period.
3 points is a verbal warning.
6 points is a written warning.
8 points you're fired.
The union cannot do anything to get your job back.

ours was about the same, but 15 points and you were out the door
5 points was 2 days without pay
calling in sick was 0 points if only one day and you had personal time left, 3 days you needed a doctors excuse or get slammed with 8 points

Here is the policy where I worked. A late or report off is an event. Report off 2 or more consecutive days is one event if you have a doctor excuse. 5 events in a 6 month period gets you the next step in the policy. After you receive a step, you have to get 5 more events in a 6 month period to get the next step. The 1st step is a counseling, 2nd step is written warning, 3rd step is three days off w/o pay, 4th step is suspension. If you go one year without a disciplinary step, you go back to no steps. You start over. A person could be late or absent 20 times in one year before he is suspended, more if you take consecutive days off with an excuse.

Wow, I just politely ask them to please make it on time in future.
I'm such a hater.

I love the "doctor's excuse" part.
Do you have any idea of the number of people I see who come to the ER with some BS complaint just so they can get a "doctor's note" for work? I've gone to the ER with some of the same complaints, even worse, except I went there to work.

One time late, or one time absent could result in fired for absenteeism.
