NC to secede from the nation?
There seems to be a strong movement in North Carolina to secede from the nation (again).
From Duke Chronicle article
Quote:
|
North Carolina is at the forefront of a grassroots movement of individual states looking to secede, following President Barack Obama’s re-election, though some say the effort is futile.
|
Anybody else have a petition going in their state?

Yes there is. I started it. We are going to become the Nation of Luvs. I will be the Grand Leader.
But seriously, take a look at Texas. They have in excess of 100,000 signatures. I wonder where this will lead.

Meh, Georgia took the brunt of it. Maybe SC is still waiting on those shovel ready jobs to get Sheldon Church rebuilt.

The United States declare war? We don't do that. We just invade, sponsor coups, strike with covert operations, impose sanctions, etc. Of course it's all in line with the constitution.

I love petitions. If they want to secede, let them. If you don't live in their state why would you care? Scram!

An amusing fact about the states that want to secede is that all but Texas use more federal tax dollars than they contribute. How's that for irony?
Some examples of amount used/returned to each state for each $1 contributed to the feds:
Texas = .94
Louisana = 1.45
Alabama = 1.71
South Carloina = 1.38
Missouri = 1.29
North Dakota = 1.73
South Dakota = 1.49
Montana = 1.58
(so much for the self supporting rugged individual west)
BTW, some blue states
Michigan = .85
New York = .79
Colorado = .79
Washington = .88
Oregon = .97
California .79
So much for the idea of the blue states sucking money from the coffers of you red staters. Innit a bitch when reality interferes with ideology?
Let 'em secede and pay their own way!

The sad part of the whole thing is that either through what our country has become, or what our population has become there are that many people willing to sign a petition, no longer willing to stand by the United States of America. Divided we fall.

IMHO the petitions are a form of protest to the federal government. A protest that many are tired of the feds doing what they wish irregardless of the Constitution. I doubt that many people that signed the petition really want secession.
What I find more disturbing is how citizens silently and contently go about their lives without protesting while our government runs up a huge debt, wages war on others even though they have not attacked us, makes laws that infringe on civil rights in the name of "security" and gives our tax dollars to private companies. The federal government has granted itself unprecedented powers. This is what our founders intended to prevent.
