Attempting to secede from the USA is stupid.
If you want to make a statement be sure to vote, get involved, write you Rep's etc. But to break up the USA becuase of obama is foolish.

Right Wing crackpots in all 50 states have filed petitions from what I understand. Then there are people in Austin who have apparently responsed to the Texas petition to secede by filing a petition asking to secede from Texas and stay in the Union. Gotta love those Austin-ites.

Austin is to Texas as Sacramento is to California, both are a waste of space.

Well, Texas will soon be swing state, so Austin is likely to feel more welcome very soon.

And you know for a fact the people who "filed petitions" are all "right wing crackpots". Do tell me great soothsayer how it is that you know.

You're right. I was wrong. They're not crackpots. Just sore losers who don't know how to play with others.

A minor concession but progress still.

The petitions of secession are just the latest of hail Mary's from the right wing crackpots to grab attention to their cause. Unfortunately for them their cause is a sinking ship that has been listing to the far right for too long.

Interesting conversation..........
So I decided that instead of waxing philosophically, I'd look at what the legal precedents say.......And here's the key to the whole thing. If these states are serious about this (We'll see), then notice this.........
Quote:
An 1869 Supreme Court case – “Texas vs. White.”
“The Supreme Court very definitively said that when Texas joined the Union, they joined the Union on the basis of an indestructible union composed of indestructible states,” she said.
In that case, Chief Justice Salmon Chase wrote:
“When, therefore, Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. All the obligations of perpetual union, and all the guaranties of republican government in the Union, attached at once to the State. The act which consummated her admission into the Union was something more than a compact; it was the incorporation of a new member into the political body. And it was final. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.”
|
So if I read this correctly, a state cannot peaceably leave, but it can get kicked out.

We were fine before and we will be fine again without the "Fed's" .
|
As NC would lose all their military bases and the associated assets along with the fact that no Fed, no pension payments to all those retired vets living there. Leaving the "state" means using a passport at every border.
The petitions are laughable at best. States going it alone wouldn't last a year.
