Can you show me where I ever called you a "bitter person"? You are making this up.

I am no moderator gentlemen, but chill. Who cares if your gay or straight. Move on for the sake of the forum. There is no reason to defend your honor in virtual space. Thanks

I would tend to agree, except now I've found I am unable to even mentioned that I have a wife without it being construed as the beating of my chest and proclaiming I'm straight.

That was funny. I'm no expert in the gay world and terminology. But I think the gay community says partner. So it would make sense that wife and husband might be exclusive to heterosexual. I could be wrong and that is ok. I don't mind getting educated. Still made me laugh.

Your comment made me think of Tim the tool man tailor. From the tv show........having a senior moment I guess. Can't remember the show name. Hmmmm. Need more vitamins.

Don't be browbeaten into calling your lady anything other than WIFE.

Come on Lefty, it's a motorcycle forum. The correct term is "'ol lady".

Whoops, guess I'm a motorcycle enthusiast, not a biker . . . . .

I am a legally married gay man. I refer to the man to whom I am married as my husband. Most gay men in this situation would refer the man to whom they are married as their husband. Legally married lesbians often refer to the woman to whom they are married as their wife. It is not universal, but it comes close. The terms husband and wife are not restricted to heterosexuals. It is usually used to describe someone to whom one is legally married, regardless of romantic or sexual orientation.

C'mon guys, let it go....really.

So someone has a spouse, so what? Most of us have one, and that's great.

Certainly, this can't can't be the most important issue on the planet, in the grand scheme of things, nor the topic of this thread. So Michael has a husband, and I have a wife.....so what? Is it really that big of a deal?

So he mentions his husband, and I mention my wife.....so what?

pcarrell - Thank you.

Now, California does have a lot of problems, as does every other state and country. There are not one but many issues to be addressed. If anyone wants to discuss the problems faced by California here is this topic in a serious, not a gotcha way, I'm open to it. But if you just want to tell those with whom you disagree how stupid they are (regardless of political affiliation), then I won't be interested.

The original question concerned poverty in California. My opinion is that it is very bad of us that we still have not figured out how to make sure that everyone, including every child, has a decent standard of living. I read an article this week about a group of religious leaders who are going to spend a week living on a food stamp budget, $31 a week total for everything. Given the price of food, I shudder at the thought that I would have to make do for an entire week on $31 for food.

Let me add something quite important that I should have added in that last post. Gay people have been getting married for a long time. I attended my first gay church wedding in 1972. I was religiously married in 1987, but not legally married until 1984 when I was able to marry in Massachusetts. Gay people among themselves have been calling their mates husband and wives and considered themselves to be married for all my adult life. The only new thing on the table is whether the government will recognize these marriages.

Now, back to the problems of California.

You've already made your point, multiple times, about "common ground" -- and nobody listened. Why don't you let it go.
