I know this was not aimed at me, but I have a few comments to make here anyway.

The yes part has to do with the fact that in this society if a man says he has a wife, he is not only saying he is partnered, he is also making a specific statement as to his sexual orientation.
I don't believe that the mention of "the wife" was in any way making a statement about sexual orientation. That only represents what you heard. You are always educating us on what gay men think, let me share something about how straight men think. We often make reference to girlfriend, ol' lady, wife, fiancee', whatever as a part of normal conversation without giving any thought to sexual orientation. That woman in our reference is simply a major part of our life and for most guys, it is hard to talk about life experiences without mentioning her at some point in the conversation. We do not talk about "her" to make a political statement. I think you are confusing what is being said with what you are hearing.

If you fear being the subject of abusive language, then I submit that you may be creating that fear in your own mind. People on this forum get made fun of for political affiliation, age, type of bike they ride, color of bike, bad spelling, etc., etc... I have seen much more abusive language directed at "libtards" and "obots" by far than sexual orientation. As I pointed out to someone recently comparing his Google search results to mine when I searched for "Islam" and he searched for "koran quotes to kill infidels", sometimes you just find exactly what you are looking for.

In another topic today I read a rant from one regular poster here describing homosexuality in fairly vile terms. Such is what life is like for a gay person on this forum. It just is not safe for most of them to come out. I on the other hand can deal with this for whatever reasons. So I talk about myself as a gay man and suddenly the discussion turns to that.

Do you think it is helpful to the discussion for you to address me in a condescending manner? Do you understand that makes me less likely to pay attention to what you write? Again, I don't think you understand how you are being heard. I try my best to address you in a polite manner. I would appreciate the same from you.
I really can't imagine how it is "unsafe" to be openly gay on this forum. Please pardon the stereotype, but maybe someone is being a little overly emotional.

There is a perfect example of what I mean. Do you take offense to that statement? You shouldn't. I'm smart enough to know you might, but I think you are smart enough to know that it was no worse than people making comments about my "baby blue" bike or the matching chaps they think I own. Its just guys BSing with each other. Why don't you take a lesson about "guys" and forget about "gays" for a little while and you might realize that you are just as accepted for who and what you are here as anybody else is. I'm not saying by everybody, but as much as the rest of us are.

It's easy to have less people living below the "poverty line" just lower the line.

Some of us don't want to be like "other developed countries", we want to be the USA. Right now we are not very united, but socialism is not what built this country to what it used to be, a strong work ethic and strong "uniting forces" did. If we can not regain those things again on a personal level, it doesn't matter who the politicians are, they will just keep us divided and keep picking our pockets until there is nothing left to pick.

I have come a long way in my life from the trailer park I grew up in. I didn't have the benefit of the United Negro College Fund or the support of the National Organization of Women or get any perks from Minority Business Enterprise grants; nope, I just grew up as a poor white male without any of the "advantages" that I might have had if I grew up 30 years earlier. I have listened to people of all kinds whine about not having incentives or handouts and how oppressed they are for one reason or another. Those people are finding exactly what they are looking for. I know what worked for our ancestors and I know what has worked so far for me. It has nothing to do with any other country and contrary to popular belief, it is not all about our government.

A condescending manner? Really Michael? I was/am trying to have a conversation with you about a statement YOU made, and seem to be passionate about. I asked a pretty simple, direct question that you totally ignored in your response. I think Gman made some very good points that you may want to take to heart.

Do I understand how YOU hear me? Probably not, but then again I feel like people are entitled to speak their opinions without fear of reprisals from those who do not agree with them. There is a difference between a conversation between two opposing opinions and one where one side demands others see his/her point of view.

You seem to want everyone here to understand how YOU interpret things said here without regard how others mean the things they say. When you post in topics not related to being a homosexual you seem to offer good, sound feedback. It's when you keep returning to the sexual theme that people seem to have a problem with.

Nobody here cares you are gay. But, nobody here is going to think before they post "I wonder how Michael will interpret this." If you would just let some things slide by, even though they bother you, I bet your life here would be so much easier. But then again, what do I know?

Anything I say that could be considered polite would likely be construed as sarcastic, so what's the point? Besides, others have challenged you to splain yourself and you've dodged those requests also.

Face it, you threw something out there that can't be defended or explained in a rational way and now you've resorted to the what is typical of the average liberal. It's so Rosie O like it's laughable.

More brilliance from CA.....

http://www.npr.org/2012/12/07/166745...0-million-loan

Quote:
School District Owes $1 Billion On $100 Million Loan

More than 200 school districts across California are taking a second look at the high price of the debt they've taken on using risky financial arrangements. Collectively, the districts have borrowed billions in loans that defer payments for years leaving many districts owing far more than they borrowed.

In 2010, officials at the West Contra Costa School District, just east of San Francisco, were in a bind. The district needed $2.5 million to help secure a federally subsidized $25 million loan to build a badly needed elementary school.

Charles Ramsey, president of the school board, says he needed that $2.5 million upfront, but the district didn't have it.

"We'd be foolish not to take advantage of getting $25 million" when the district had to spend just $2.5 million to get it, Ramsey says. "The only way we could do it was with a [capital appreciation bond]."

Those bonds, known as CABs, are unlike typical bonds, where a school district is required to make immediate and regular payments. Instead, CABs allow districts to defer payments well into the future by which time lots of interest has accrued.

In the West Contra Costa Schools' case, that $2.5 million bond will cost the district a whopping $34 million to repay.
Are there any adults left in govt in that state?

G, luv, B - I've read a your responses. I have nothing else to add to what I previously wrote. I don't what to keep going over the same points and I see nothing new in your responses that warrants a new response from me. If you personally want to discount everything I wrote in this topic, I can't stop you. If you want to learn something from my posts about what it is like to be part of a despised minority in America, I ask you to reread my posts. I am speaking for myself in these posts and not anyone else. There is however a lot in my posts that might help you with dealing with members of your extended family and friends who happen to be gay. I've told you what it is like from the inside for one gay man. The choice is now yours.

No need to respond.

I feel like I am part of a despised minority.

I do have a family member who is gay and I have never had a problem relating to her nor do I harbor any ill feelings toward her because of it. I also have never once heard her complain about how she is treated because of her lifestyle or had her try to educate me on what it is like to be gay. I think that says a lot because I am comparing how tough it might be to be a gay man in San Francisco vs being a gay woman in Wisconsin. Hmmmmm, tough comparison. No, not really.

I'm not sure what the choice is that I need to make.
