It sounds great family & friends pulling together, but you left out the most biggest part if all it takes CASH to rebuild, and after a disaster most people lost it all.
It would be nice though.

What makes you think if they do raise taxes that they'll spend it responsibly and pay anything down rather than just finding new ways to spend it?

It will be hard on the federal workers who make 50K and less. In the DC area, most hourly federal workers are not well off. It's just too expensive to live in the area. And while they will surely get the missed wages repaid, go without right at the start of the Christmas season is a little harsh.
There will be a lot said about SS and SSDI checks not going out, but in the end they will. Those funds come from a trust fund and as such would have to be payed out. To not send these check would subject government appointees to criminal penalties.
The military will not lay off anyone. They will not refuse delivery of any weapons systems. Booze and beef will not run out at the commissary store.
Any business that goes broke over missing a federal payment, was already broke before this started.
In the end, a two week shutdown will save less than 1% of the budget.
|
Then were not serious about getting this under control. Everyone has problems, and its really sad, but something needs to be done.

That won't happen, just look at California. The higher they raise our taxes, the more they spend.

Let me fix that for ya.
The more they spend, the higher they raise taxes.
You had your cause and effect reversed.

Bullseye again, G Man.
While you're at it, can you fix my junk retirement bonds?
Actually, it's not too funny, but suicide isn't a choice, yet.

Now now, you know it's not real money, just "on paper". That's what Bain would say, anyway, right before they raided the pension plans of the companies they liquidated.

Another major problem with our society.
CASH is only as important as we make it out to be. You can't eat it. You can't drink it. It won't stop disease. It won't shelter you from the elements. The earth will survive just fine without CASH when our species of self-inflated stupid beings is long gone.
You can take that to the bank.
