i agree, if Romney had chosen Marco Rubio, that would have likely swung more of the Latino voters his way and the fact that Ryan didn't help carry his own home state drives that home. GOP has to evolve or it becomes irrelevant.

To Casey, MP, Thrasher and any other supporters of Obama I say congrats. You have earned your victory lap, spiking the football, endzone dance etc... To the victor go the spoils.
I would caution any one into reading to much in to Obama's re-election though based on the closeness of the final popular vote.
Imho most folks are not engaged in watching and keeping track of day to day politics, debt, deficit etc... They do vote but are very subject to suggestive marketing. And is this sense Obama and his team did a great job of convincing the average casual voter that he was better suited to be re-elected than try a new guy.
Considering Obamas track record of failure and blame. Americans can be and have been very swayed many times. Remeber pet rocks.....need I say more.
Imho it is not a right or left issue at all. It merely reflects that a majority of voters (be it a small majority) bought, liked and wanted the Obama maketing message. The reason I say this is because both sides lie so much that all reality is blurred. Fact is when folks are unsure of what is good or true or the best path they will usually chose what is familiar. As was done in this case it appears.

I think it was just as much how the Obama campaign mrketed Romney. All year long we were bombarded with Bain Capital, Romney is rich, Romney is out of touch, Romney hate poor people etc. The fact is Obama did exactly what he claimed others do in 08, when you have nothing to run on you paint your opponet as someone to run from, which is what he started doing even before Romney became the nominee.

I'll take the victory lap, but I'm not looking for spoils. I am looking for Democrats and Republican to remove the ideological straightjackets and make some progress toward putting our financial house in order.

Don't hold your breath on that wish Casey. Imho both sides are invested in keeping thingz exactly as they are. For the elected pols it is a great gig 175k a year plus all expenses paid and the best benefits on planet earth. As long as they do just enough to keep the media and the public off their back they won't change a thing.
That is my point they sell (market) what ever bag of goods they think the public will buy. With no real concern whether they can deliver or not. Their only plan is to convince us that they "intend" to deliver to keep their job. Imho 98% of all the elected pols are that way with only 2% having a real desire to help our country and fellow citizens. Yep I know it sounds jaded.

That's not squat compared to what they make on the side. They go to congress with maybe $400,000 in assets and leave a few years later as multimillionaires.

It's like Papa Bear O'Reily sez, "50% of the electorate want free stuff".
Oh yeah and Sandy "blunt"ed Mitt's momentum.

Obama won cause he's going to fix the economy!
Lookit here, it's really going to take off now with this modest tax increase he's talking about :

Quote:
President Barack Obama will begin budget negotiations with congressional leaders Friday by calling for $1.6 trillion in additional tax revenue over the next decade, far more than Republicans are likely to accept and double the $800 billion discussed in talks with GOP leaders during the summer of 2011.
Mr. Obama, in a meeting Tuesday with union leaders and other liberal activists, also pledged to hang tough in seeking tax increases on wealthy Americans. In one sign of conciliation, he made no specific commitment to leave unscathed domestic programs such as Medicare, leaving the door open to spending cuts many fellow ...

Guess I wasn't very clear.
I don't know if the pubs make more stupid comments than the libs. But I don't think they get the passes from media the libs do.
If alienating Hispanics means securing our borders and enforcing immigration laws I think we need to think very long before abandoning those principals. Hispanics are hard working, proud, productive members of our society who I feel agree with the need to enforce our immigration laws. But we need to do it with respect.
