Economy not recovering? Dow is at a 4 year high; Nasdaq at an 11 year high
So, the economy isn't recovering/recovered?
With the national jobless rate now at 8.3 pct (the lowest in 3 years), the US has added 243,000 jobs in January alone, Dow has reached a 4 year high and Nasdaq is at an 11 year high.ClickyClick
There are no doubt wingnuts on this forum who will continue to whine for twisted and unsubstantiated reasons.
You won't hear the oil patch whining, though,... that's because we're working full tilt and have more work than we can handle. Take the Permian Basin for instance; it is booming.
Need a good paying job? Go to Midland and work in the oil patch. They are hiring all skill levels. Clicky
Midland, Texas, the hub of the Permian Basin, is like it was in the '70's. ClickyClick
Midland's unemployment rate is 4.1%.
They are hiring like crazy in Midland. I was there a couple of weeks ago and its very difficult to even get a room (had to reschedule the trip), and the prices everywhere have skyrocketed because of the demand. The whole town is full of vehicles with out of state plates.
Eagle Ford shale play is also a big boom in south Texas. Its been fantastic for jobs. They too are hiring like crazy. MWD and RSS services make this type of drilling possible.
I am hiring, looking for 38 skilled welders, hard to find
Good luck with that one. Americans like to whine about manufacturing jobs being lost, but then never stop to consider why that might be. Might have something to do with the fact that doing grunt work has suddenly become beneath the dignity of much of the current generations of young people.
A free college education for anyone that wants one is quickly working it's way into becoming the next entitlement.
Suddenly, Vocational Tech is only good enough for the underclass and the un-educated.
When I was a youngster, I framed houses and made pretty damn good money doing it. Construction workers, welders, machinists, all were desirable vocations back then and there was no shortage of people wanting to get into those fields. Nowadays when I drive by a construction site, you hear Mariachi music instead of Rock and Roll in the background and the workers jabbering in Spanish. I was told that young, native born americans just weren't interested in doing kind of work anymore.
And they can't find enough able bodied non-citizens to fill the jobs?
There is a lot of discussion in the oil patch that the Haynesville shale play up in your neck of the woods could be the 2nd boom for the general area. The 1st, of course, being Spindletop.
I was hiring all of 2011, 28 new hires i think, and no its not contract work, I dont base my business on that.
ND pays better if you are willing to weld pipeline, around $40 / hour. But you will most liklely stay in a camp. Grea for a younger single guy, but no way I would do it.
Our stuff is hard to weld, high tensil strenght speciality steel. Tested over hundered weldesr in 2011, many did not pass the first welding test.
