I think you missed the critical point. My wife works for a major bank and due to her job, frequently has 'insider information'. If she were to act on that information, she would go to jail. If a member of congress, who all have continuous access to 'insider information', were to do it they get a free pass because they are exempt from the law.
I wasn't aware of that critical point, thats why I had the ? after my comment bout the laws. I'm enlightened.
Now if someone would get rid of their healthcare exemption, maybe more members of Congress on the other side would be down with fixin that mistake.

I hear you.. I used to run corporate messaging and windows operations for a fortune 500 company.. I had to jump through flaming hoops every quarter for SOx reports etc. that show we are compliant in data retention etc. I also had to provide forensic data analysis for litigation / SOx... The cost of compliance and the crap companies have to go through is mind blowing.. Yet the people who implement these laws are immune to them and in fact take advantage of them... It's sick.

I'm thinking that if they had to abide by the same laws we do, had the same retirement opptions we do and had the same health care options we do there would be a marked difference in some of the legislation they pass.

Insider trading is one thing, but passing laws that allow for a company to gain then trading based on that knowledge is just down right criminal.
My personal opinion is that once you get elected, appointed SCjudge, or hired into a cabinet level position you should be required to sell off all holdings in any private company, especially ones doing business with the gov.
Maybe if they concentrated more on the job at hand than their own self worth we'd be in better shape.
