Air pushing through air cleaner...

What happens is, it sounds like air is pushing out of the filter, she will run and then a loud pop of air and then idle is fine. This is just when first starting up and the choke is pulled. Any thoughts? Doesnt seem to be a big problem but being very new to bikes and v-twins, I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

Spec's are in sig.

Thanks,

My 85 FXRS with an S&S Super E does that every once in a while. I believe the technical term is called a carb fart. I haven't had any problems with it. I think sometimes I give it too many throttle rolls before punching the button. And if you have the same carb, you don't really have a choke so much as a enrichener. If you had a choke, like on a Bendix carb, a butterfly valve would close when you engaged the choke and you wouldn't have this problem as much. That's my opinion, FWIW. I have a 75 Sporty with a Bendix, and it has never popped back out the air cleaner. I think that the S&S Super E is prone to do this because it doesn't have that butterfly that closes off the air intake like a normal choke would/does. Hope this makes sense, and helps. Bottom line; I wouldn't worry about so long as your timing and jetting on your carb are correct.

Yup, makes perfect sense I think you are completely correct. She is a kick start as well so I have been practicing kicking her over since there is a damn nack to it for sure. So, I think when I go to kick it over I'm opening the throttle by accident due to weight transfer. It doesn't happen all the time.
