CV carb's V.O.E.S.,can I scrap it?

I'm putting a CV carb on my 79 Shovel. While installing I noticed that one minor detail was overlooked....the Vaccum Operated Electrical Switch hose fitting is there, sooooooo, can I just block it off or what? I run points so I really don't need the switch, but will the carb work properly with this fitting blocked off ?
Also, any recommendations for jet sizes ? I was going to try whats stock in the CV but if anyone has done this mod I'd like to hear about your results.
Thanks in advance.

Cap the vacuum line off, no problem, small plastic caps available @ auto parts stores.

I run 44 & 175 on my stock 80"shovel with the with idle mixture screw

turned out 2 turns.

If the carb is bone stock you'll have to expose the idle mixture screw by popping out the small plug on the Left side bottom of the carb.

Also you'll need an adapter to fit the CV carb to your manifold.

These are available on Ebay @ about 30.00.

You should be good to go for around $100-125.

You'll need new cables as well. Hook up the enrichner also, these carbs don't have a "real" choke, that's what the enrichner is for.

Great carb with the accelerator pump, great throttle response.

Couldn't be happier. Also you may want to check www.shovelhead.us
for more info. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, just what I needed. I have the adapter and cables, insulator block, and have the enricher mounted.
Did you use a support bracket for the extra weight? I was thinking of making a bracket connecting the top motor mount to the throttle cable bracket.

Yes, I used a support bracket. I have an S&S teardrop aircleaner.

I used the bracket that comes with it but it would be easy to fabricate.

It's approx 1/2 in wide, straight with an apprx 45 degree bend on each end.

Appx 8-10 in long or so.

It bolts from the backside of the air cleaner towards the front, down to

the bolt that goes through the case in between the cylinder bases.

The bolt goes all the way through the case and is used for the clutch

cable bracket on the other side (leftside) of the engine.

If you run w/o the support bracket you will eventually develop a leak in the

intake to head Oring or Band rubber gaskets due to the leverage and

vibration. This is a Bad thing!

Pop off the bottom of the carb and check to see what jets are in there.

It's stamped into the end of each jet. May have to pull them to see the

numbers. The stock jets may be fine if your bike is close to stock.

Good luck, ride safe.

Yep, you will need a support. I ran a 1/2" stainless steel strap from the center crankcase bolt to the back of the air cleaner.

I use a #48 mid jet and a 165 main let with the idle screw 2 turns out. No modifications to the carburetor at all. Mine won't run with a smaller mid jet.
