I have a 65 pan with electric by franks gen, and it is not working, any clues on how to check it or toss it or is the gen. good and the reg gone bad?

Have you checked the voltage of the generator without the regulator hook up???

yeah, I did, I don't think I was getting anything, across the A & F or to ground, I pulled the gen, a wire had fell off one of the brushes, it has 2, and the springs looked like they were in a fire.

It's been a long time since I have worked on a generator system but it seems that the generator may need to be polerized.

A=Amature
F=Field
12V=Battery connection

Get a jumper wire and connect it to the battery and then touch it to the A (amature) for about a second. Then see if it charges. I can't remember if this needs to be done with the bike running or not. I would try it first with the bike off and if that doesn't work try it with the bike running.
