bad lifters?

I'm new here so thanks in advance for any opinions. I bought an 82 fxr a few years back. Didn't need just wanted it. When I got it I knew it had a problem. Coughed and far*ed when it was cold choke would smooth it out. After it warmed it was ok, occasionally took to missing. Lived with it till past spring and took the heads off. new valves, guides, and seats. Ran somewhat better but still had problems. A few days ago after sitting for a few weeks, it refuses to start. Has spark and fuel but no go. I''ve suspected the lifters before. Could they possibly be the problem? Haven't pulled the covers off yet but that's my next step. anyone ever tried to rebuild them with the factory kits? I'm running out of ideas and could use some help.

springer- will become famous soon enough
Not everyone reads all the post. In the pre-evo forum there are not a lot of people browsing it. Sometimes a bump can help but the insults don't usually.

Did you check the compression? That is the first place I would start.

I'm guessing they are hydraulic????? No never run them in shovels or pans,,they are mostly junk that collapse..This is why the evo kits are so popular..The best shovel site is Jackeroo,,its a shovel forum only.
