rebuilt start-up

Hey Guys trying to start a fresh professionally rebuild engine. It will fire and pop a little but won't stay running. I was using a gear oil bottle for a tank over the carb. Batt is brand new fully charged some times being jumped. Hate to kill a starter so I don't go crazy and too long. 77/78? fxe w/ s&s super e shorty. I am thinking maybe air/fuel, carb is set to original settings per web site. Any help would be great. Thanks

poke a vent hole in th bottom of your gear oil bottle. or safer yet, have confidence in your build and put the gas tank on and run it!

Have a 1/4" slit in bottle. Using because the need to tighten things back up after warm up/break in right? First build from ground up.

It was low voltage. Got a relay and ran it right to the coil. I'm glad I waited to put tanks on, some hard to get to bolts need to be tightened and did not want to scratch up the paint.
