I've never bought a cam before, 1st do they come with matching pinion gear or are they separate...?
2nd How much importance is put on matching them...?

They don't come with a matching pinion, really no need to.

Your cam and pinion have a color associated with them which determines their size,it is a gear mesh fitment code.

Some cam people will allow you to order your cam with the color code and some cam people grind their cam with a middle of the road cut which will fit one side loose the other side tight.

I just take and press the gear off the stock cam and press it onto the new cam. This way you have what you had.The gears are all mated up and its not hard to do.Good luck ,Ron

Thanks Ron, since I posted this thread I swapped emails with Bob Wood, I asked the same question, He says his cams are made by Andrews and they use a red pinion and no they do not come with a matched pinion...
