1982 Fxrs

Gents - Im looking at bidding on an 82 FXRS, but have some questions....This bike is rubber mounted? Ive read the stories about vibs on shovels, but is the FXR relatively smooth?

Can switches, speedo and tach be updated with newer FXD parts?

Also, does this VIN look OK? 1hd1ebk10cy124538

Thanks alot.

I have had 2 of these. I like them, parts are hard to find, look for a set of exhaust for example. They are geared for when the national speed limit was 55, hard to keep up with out regearing. I had to tinker with them alot, but I enjoyed them.

I love the FXR's.I had three early EVO's.The rubber mounts smooth them out nice.

They weren't very popular due to them being different, rubber mount and all,not a real Harley you know, but the people that I knew that had them loved them,me included.

As far as the speedo and such,I'm not real sure but if I had to guess I would say that if it doesn't just bolt on it wouldn't be too far off to make it work.

If I rememeber correctly they had a few versions of the dash, speedo, tach setup. My EVO's were different, one was a police which had a tach and another civvie model didn't...

Don't know anything about vin #'s.

If the ole girl is in good shape and the price is right and you like her, grab it I don't think you will be disappointed...If you are you can blame me..Ron

The FXR's are all rubbermount and vibration is not an issue as long as all the rubber mounts are still good.

The speedo is front wheel driven so any frant wheel driven speedo that works with a 19" wheel should work as long as the front wheel drive is on the correct side.

I have an 83 FXRT Shovelhead and love it. Parts are not that hard to find as most of them were used on many different year bikes. The only thing that will be tricky is the exhaust since it only fits 2 years (82 & 83). The FXR shovels were only made for those 2 years.

The vin checks out good. You can check it yourself here ... http://www.bigboyzcycles.com/vin.htm

It will be a tinkerer type bike with it being as old as it is.

Any aftermarket shop will have brake pads for all HD's. I'm sure you can still get brake pads from the Dealer too.
