Panhead Cases
I read somewhere that an alternator left case will mate to my early fifties pan right case. Does anyone have experience with this conversion, and recommendation for the brand case to go with? Also will this allow for an electric start set-up? I know, I know, sacriligeous, but hard to kick since breaking my knee. Mainly I like the alternator upgrade but the elec. start bonus is good...also there are no engine/vin numbers on the left case upper, only the belly numbers. It does NOT appear to be altered, in fact it passed a California VIN inspection and was assigned a new Ca. # and title on the frame...however, I am in Arizona and they are a little wierd over here...

call STD. but its better to think in terms of new matched cases---and you can build a reliable 93 in pan with alt, but looks like a generator motor. then call baker about their 6 in a four tranny.
its only money.

Many cases won't mate very well. At the very least you would need to have the cases line-bored and the decks checked. Sometimes, the holes don't line up with mis-matched cases, as well.
I've never seen a Harley case without a case VIN number. I guess it could happen but under what circumstances?

I have a set of NEW, STD generator cases for 3 13/16's cylinders.
Good pricing.

I saw one once. It was owned by a true Harley legend in Houston named ___ Fred. I met ___ Fred before he passed and saw his bike. Left side was an HD alternator case, right side was a HD generator case. I'm thinking it was a shovelhead, but it's been 25 years. He had two complete electrical systems on it so that if one failed, he was still good to go. He took that bike down the Baja Peninsula (and back), among other trips.
