Unhappy 4 speed tranny 75 shovel

I am about to tear her out. I have put two shifing forks in in about 4 months. My mech is acusing me of bending them. this last time i shifted it like it was made in china and it still is giving me problems. It started not wanting to shift from N to first so I would have to go up to 2 and come back down. now it is not going into 2 and i have to skip and go to 3 and you know how high geared that is. not good. I am thinking about doing the rebuild myself.
i am mechanical but have never worked on a bike tranny. i have helped rebuild a 46 ford 4 speed and some other small projects.
would the 60 minute video out there on this topic be of help and would having the manuel help out as well. What rebuild kit do you guys recomend Jims, Andrews, vtwin etc...? Thanks! I am out of money i really need to do this myself. i think i could do it. I know for a fact that i need the 4th gear and main seal as well as bushing replaced it leaks like a mother. i hope that the bushing is all that is damaged. i don't know about the main shaft and counter shaft yet. i guess the kit has those anyway. Help!!!

Hay Dude taking the tranny in & out yourself is great rebuilding is another thing it might coast you more to try to do it yourself.Something is being overlooked for that tranny to be shifting like that.Could be in the ratchet top problem? my suggestion is send that tranny after you remove it Ill tell you exactly whats wrong repair it send it back guaranty it parts, labor, shipping, We can test run it after repair before installing back in the bike Thats one of the best tranny's HD ever made a loose bearing 4 speed they don't bend many forks some one missed something Ill bet on it

You only replace whats needed any gears or dogs worn 1/2 way or more should be changed all bearings and bushings replaced, main shaft measure it if worn replace. Tranny repairs on 4speeds run from 600 to 1000 dollars parts and labor. Look at sprockets and chain at the same time its apart. Turn around time is about 3 days in shop Andrew

4 spd. Rachet lid

When it is done correctly, shipping costs are long forgotten.

While you have it out you might as well put a worm gear in for the preedo. It looks so much cleaner. I agree about letting someone setting your detent and pawl adjustment that is familiar. I have been ripping on my four speed for years and it is wonderful....
