Which Cam for Big Bore 93" Shovel???

My 36 year old is jumpin' into some S&S jugs and T&O 4 &1/2" wheels. I got an Andrews B grind and a Lienweber L3. Which one for all purpose tire burnin' and highway cruizing?
Y'all got any recommendations before she gets closed up?

Not enough info. What compression? Headwork? Very important to set your squish on a shovel since there isnt much of it to be had in stock combustion chamber configeration. And also dual plugging is one of the best performance mods for that hemi design. Oh, Welcome to the forum!

Glad to be here!!

I got duo-plugged S&S heads already. They're set up for a .575" lift and are ported & polished with a nice new 5 angle grind job on the valves .
The S&S forged pistons that come with the big bore cylinders I think are 9:1 cr. Truett & Osborne 4.5" wheels complete the adventure.

I was told short duration, moderate lift was cat's butt for torque...

Whaddaya think??

I think your on the right track with the Andrews B. I ran it in my 96" shovel with 9-1 comp and was very pleased with it. Great torque right off the bottom. Good Luck

You might be happier with the BH (hydaulic) grind.

The experts on this forum might be able to help you out with this topic but its the distance the piston comes to the surface of the combustion chamber and can be adjusted by cutting cylinder length but keep in mind this also affects compression. I am currently rebuilding my 96" and set my squish up at .030".

B grind has worked effectively for my 74 inch for 6 years... my valve train is all JIMS Powerglide (hydraulic) system.

So I guess you achieve the 'squish' by planing your heads and using a thinner crush on the head gasket?

Nope, on the shovel your better off removing material from the top of the cylinder (gasket surface).

We shorten the cylinders and the intake to do this. Some times takes shorter pushrods from S&S. We like the S82 cam with our head work. Hope this helps.

Cams

Bob Wood makes a .510 lift cam for shovels that works well.
Have seen 80/80 with modified S&S castings, on 80"'s.
Have also seen the L3 work very, very well over the years. Watch your valvetrain with his cams.(Lieneweber)
