rdubya wants to know Dino or Syn?
oiler

once again i am asking for some reassurance before i go out and screw up my shovel. I want to close off the primary from teh oil pump flow. When i do this how exactly do i go about it and then how much oil would you want in the primary for the chain. also do you just add it threw the clutch cover and try not to get it on the clutch? I am the young guy almost 22. Work on a lot of cars just not hogs. Apreciate ur help.

Google shovelhead primary oiler or search here on this site. There are several articles with diagrams around on the Net.

I agree with above. Do a search.
When I did my shovel, I was changing to a Rivera Pro clutch.
Per the instructions, I had to coat/soak the clutch plates in
transmission fluid just prior to ass'y.
Without looking at the other threads myself, I am wondering about
cleaning some of the engine oil from the primary case before you
make the change to a primary lube (of your choice). I believe I'd
pull the cover and clean out a little.
As for the amount, add a qt of your chosen fluid. done deal.

Go to www.shovelhead.us and do a search, you'll get plenty of posts

and a diagram or two.

Oil or tranny fluid added to bottom of clutch basket with the bike sitting upright. The clutch basket spinning around will lubricate evrything including the clutch discs.

You may have to plug a couple of the hoses with a bolt and Gates clamp

until the next time you pull your inner primary. When the inner primary is off

you'll be able to plug the holes in the rear of the inner primary and remove the plugged hoses permanently.

This is a worthwhile project and GOOD for your engine. Keeps that clutch &

primary chain shoe debris isolated and out of your engine.
