brake light

Hi my partner has an83 lowrider I think, it has shocks, looks like a superglide to me. its 83. has no brake light. when you turn the ing switch 1 click the tail light comes on, its the brake i think. 2 clicks the other filliment also comes on. the headlight also comes on.the turn signals have been removed, but the other lights used to work correctly. the wire from under the seat at the plug in, to the taillight is good.i put power on each and the light worked properly. thats as far as we got today . any ideas? thanks

Usually you have two brake light switches one for the back brake (at the back side of the trans by the swing arm pivot on mine) and one for the front brake (small micro switch at the hand lever). It would be strange to have both go out at the same time but you never know. Obvious things to look for (you probably already checked) light bulb, fuse, broken/loose wire. Sorry if I was not much help, but I know were you can gets lots of good help for you shovel. www.shovelhead.us

Just curious but have the grips been replaced lately?

As tecra_1 said you have a micro switch at the brake lever. If the lever perch has moved away from the switch the brake light will be on all the time. Loosen the two screws of the switch housing and push the housing toward the brake lever perch so the switch will open and turn off the brake light.

Your brake light is most likely on all the time now.
