103" Shovel

My brother pulled the engine to check it over.
5" stroke, 3 5/8 bore.
Lieneweber L-6 cam.
Both ot theses items are known to cause wear, but much to his surprise, the pistons look like they came out of the box, the guides/springs are in great shape, and very little wear in the cylinder bore.
Engine has over 25,000 on it.
What we are attributing this to is proper assembly, proper break-in, and NOT beating the snot out of it all the time.

With modified OE castings, an S&S G carb with a T/jet, Dyna ignition, and 1 3/4" drag pipes, with "bolts" in them, it showed just a tick over 100 hp, and 111 and change, on the torque, here on our Dynojet 150.
Bike weighs well under 500 lbs, so that said, it pulls around most others out there, to say the least.

Dan,
That would be totally unfair, at even the 110" level, but fun.

Years ago I was talked out of the 103" in my 79 FXEF,settled for a 93"Oh well! Anyway another friend built a 103" Pan,and that was a savage Harley. He was unbeatable, partly because he was so crazy.Man, I miss those days! Thanks for the memories!

Now that is something I relate to big time.My John Deere 60 has an incredible idle with the straight pipe on.Course the big inch Harleys
have more crack at idle, then again the compression is about double over the JD's

Hillside, my brother has a 81 FLH. It has a 93" S&S sidewinder w/S&S cases. he wants to deck the jugs to get 10:1 compression(curreently 8.5:1), RB Racing 2into1, and a Leineweber L51 cam. What would be your opinion on this set up? He already has a modfied S&S 'e' with t-jet and a DTT ignition. By the way he weighs at least 330lbs and its a full dresser. How much lift can he go without machine work to the heads(he currently has the S&S 514 cam)? Is there another cam you like? Your opinion on a pipe?

That 51 is one hellva cam.
Should work very well.
We can deck the cylinders to raise the compression.

Andrews has a "group" of high lift shovel cams that work very well in the proper application, but it is MIGHTY tough to beat a Lieneweber in those Shovels/Iron XL's.
