Standard Police seat replacements

Looking for ideas on a seat replacement for my 06 FLHPI. Have the police seat, which is very comfortable, but I'm tall and when seated my head is positioned where it seems to get a lot of turbulence from the wind over the top of the windshield. Wondered which seats have proven to be a help to folks in this forum in lowering the driver position without moving the driver forward. Also, cannot afford to lose too much comfort!

Thanks.

seat

I am partial to the comfortable seat. I would look at changing windshields and keep the seat. Is the windshield the tall Police model or the standard? It you need the tall shield I can hook you up.

Windshield

My FLHPI already had the Tall Windshield on it. I know because it was the same size as the new Tall windshield that I ordered. I ended up replacing it with a 24" windshield from Steel Horse windshields. Their url is as follows:

I purchased the RK standard solo, passenger pillion and strap as a dealer take-off for $100 on ebay about one year and 20,000 miles ago. It is absolutely fine for my purposes. My buddy bought one for his RK Custom without the pillion and strap just before we went to Sturgis this summer for $60 on ebay and was very happy with it after 4,750 miles in 9 days.

My impression is that the RK Standard solo does not put you more forward than the stock police seat. Prior to getting this seat, I tried a Harley Sundowner on the bike and it definitely moved me forward; so much so that I returned the seat to the dealer.

Corbin, Mustang, and others offer the type of seat you want, but I am pleased with what I have.

I have a Mustang 2 piece seat on my 2000 FLHPI. I sit a bit lower and I think further back. Very comfortable (Broke my coccyx years ago, no pain when I ride with the Mustang). I've done 1 Iron Butt on it ...and lots of 500 mile days. If I needed further reach for my legs, I'd look at forward controls. (Dont need them though and love my floor boards so I can move my feet around on those long rides.

Further info on windshield specs

I think the windshield is the police version, i.e. taller @ 24".

US Ranger, do you have a picture of your bike's profile with the Mustang seat on it? I think from that I could see where the driver would be.

Thanks.

Police seat issue

You can try installing a laminar lip on the top of the windshield. It reduces the turbulence by moving air higher. It's not perfect but it's an improvement if you don't mind the look.

I had the Mustang solo as well.

I also like the Mustang solo as well. You will sit noticeably lower and some to the rear. If you get the back rest option, it's position in the pad will force you slightly foreward. I like the tall shields too. Not as cool looking, but. You can see the passenger sits up quite a bit higher, so without the taller shield, the winds hits the wife square in the face.

Should be a link to a picture.

Chrome handrail for Police solo air-ride

Found this accessory for the Police solo air-ride seat:

http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup...6-C68717C24375

Anybody tried using this item?

How was the quality of the material/workmanship?

The J&P technician said it would bolt on easy enough.

Thx,

Lance.

Police replacement seat

Put a Mustang 1 pc. touring seat on my '04 R/K. It seems to be 1" to 1-1/2" lower than the air seat while seated, and about 1/2" forward. You WILL notice a ride difference comming off the air seat and onto a non-suspension type.

seat replacement update

Well, I have managed to replace my air ride seat with a dual corbin from off eBay. I like the lower seating position and the support for lateral movement. Being about 1-2" lower I am avoiding the buffet zone over the windshield. Though the corbin is no match for the air ride seat for comfort on the up and down bumps it is great for front/back and left/right movement; overall I like it. Time will tell if my back will be happy.

Now ... I was thinking of adjusting the police handlebars. A dealer told me that the way the bars are constructed, if you rotate them towards the front of the bike the angle of the hand grips changes. I intend to try it soon. Has anybody altered the handlebar position and found a problem with their riding?

Thx,

Lance.

They are much better than civilian bars, but i put 16 wild ones on and they are very comfortable. It is an expensive job to do right, but what a difference.

Really like the look and feel of the 16's, I put the Carlini's on. If the cop seat sits you up a couple inches and has a narrow front, I should be just right, if that's possible.

A guy on the Delphi Roadking Forum put one on his bike. Looks real nice. He posted some pictures. Just type in Police seat on the search when your at the site.

If you change the position of the handle bars, it will change the angle of the hand grips. But you can simple adjust them too. At least thats the way it was on my 2004 RK.
