Police paint jobs

It was Thursday, the p.m. shift. The weather was overcast with nasty looking clouds. Cool and windy. A perfect day for a putt.

Anyway, today I passed a motor officer on an EG. He was driving a blue and gold bike. It was drop dead gorgeous!

Are those paint jobs done by Harley or some custom aftermarket shop? (I didn't think to pull over the officer and ask him.)

Larry:

The bikes come painted from Harley-Davidson in the colors that the department chooses. If you really like the colors, find out what they are. Your dealer could send in your tins and have them painted the same colors through Harley's Spectrum paint program. Not many people know about the Spectrum program, check it out in the big book under the Color Shop section of the book.

If you go to HD's website, under "Motorcycles" is a drop down menu that includes "Police and Firefighter." Choose that one and it takes you to the police bike section. In there will be specs that will include what HD refers to as the "color palette." The HD factory paint schemes for police bikes is listed there.

Here in Roswell, Ga the police EG's are an attractive blue and silver--unless their blue lights are flashing right behind you, of course.
