Turning radius on 09 police bikes

Our dept. just received a notice from the MOCO that they will switch out the forks on our 2009 Road King to allow for a tighter turning radius. Its not a recall but I guess they finally acknowledged what we've been complaining aobut. I'm glad they did. Can't wait to get it switched over. I just wish the solo saddles on the 09's were still able to flip up to keep the rain and sun off of them.

About time. As you remember I had to find out about the 09 turning radius issue the hard way at motor school. When I get on my personal 08 Ultra after riding the department's 09, I feel like I could burn circles around that 09 all day long.

The '09 and I are getting to know each other. I have to say that I like it overall. My biggest complaint after the steering change is that the seat won't flip up like the earlier models. That was really nice for wet weather and parking in the sun.

The 09's are ok. They don't feel quite as nimble as the previous years bikes. No complaint or problems other than the turning radius.

Just completed the Police Harley Instructor course this past May 2009 in Allentown PA and we had the 09's. All of the 09's that Harley/Northwestern had for the instructor course were all modified to include the new triple trees to give back the radius.

It took me an hour or so on day one to get use to it. Once I got use to the 09 with the front end mods, i think they ride and handle much better then previous years.

There was no problem in completing the 18 foot course with the 09's with the mods

My PD's 09's are out our local shop now geeting the trees replaced...can't wait to get them back!!

Just got the recall done, BIG difference. It's like the front end keeps turning and turning and FINALLY you come to full lock. I haven't run it thru our course yet, but by playing in parking spaces it pretty close to the 08..at least to me. We have a rodeo coming up and I feel ALOT better about being on my 09 now.

Your absolutely correct about the turning, it keeps going and going until it locks. That is exactly what I had to get use to when I used the 09's at the HD/Northwestern Instructor school.

I think they may tun a tad tighter then previous years

anyone had chance to run a modded O9 thru high speed turns to see if there is a trade off 'tween stability and the tighter turning circle?

I don't see how the mod would affect stability at higher speeds. If I understand the mod correctly all they are doing is putting on a new triple tree with stops that allow a tighter turning radius at slow speeds. No geometry changes to the front end.

Thanks for that, I'd assumed the geometry had been altered with the mod.

I just got mine back today. I wasn't used to the steering yet and I came into a right turn sweeper pretty quick and ended up pushing too hard. I thought that I either pushed to hard or the front wheel slipped on something, in any case it gave me a little startle.

BTW, my bars feel higher up. Is that part of the new triple tree or did they just set them up higher? I REALLY like them that way. I was out turning one of our RT-P's today!
